I've DM'ed a few Play-By-Post RPGs, and they always broke down within a few months due to various reasons, like players missing the posting deadlines or trying to control the actions of each others' characters. Some folks tried to turn the games into erotic mind-games with under-aged kids playing. Still others either did not know the rules, or they knew the rules too well. Some would simply cheat.
And then there were the munchkins -- people who, when told that the game would be set in Venice during the Renaissance Era, insist on playing cyborgs, ninjas, or cybernetic-enhance ninjas.
