Has anyone here ever played "The Longest Journey" or it's sequel "Dreamfall: The Longest Journey"? Well, apparently the long-awaited sequel to "Dreamfall", called "Dreamfall Chapters" is about to get released next year. Instead of getting funding from game publishers though, the creators have put the game on Kickstarter in order to get donations from fans of the series:

I think this is a wonderful series of adventure games, so if anyone's a fan of the series, I'd highly recommend checking out the Kickstarter page:

I'm a big fan!! I've played both of the previous games, they're some of my favorites in the genre (and I'm a HUGE adventure games fan!). Once I got used to the control scheme, I really loved dreamfall...it's one of the few fully 3D games that stick to the old point-and-click adventure game style. I normally don't trust or like kickstarter, but this is one project that I would actually consider donating to, just because they have already proven to be capable of making excellent games. I really hope that they are able to make the new game fully 3D like dreamfall, perhaps with updated graphics...it's so much more exciting being able to really immerse yourself in the game, as opposed to 2D adventures where the world doesn't feel as vibrant.

I'm super-excited about it, it'll be hard to wait nearly 2 years for the release lol! I actually heard that they were trying to make a movie a while back, but had to abandon it due to lack of funding. I'm glad to see that someone else is as excited as I am! The last one ended on such a cliffhanger too.

Really looking forward to this. The end of Dreamfall was such a cliffhanger. I cried.

Until it comes out, I'll be playing Secret World (directed by Ragnar), which I recommend for adventure gamers who don't mind the mmo stuff and combat that comes along with it. The investigative missions are quite good, challenging puzzles... and there are oodles of them.

I don't usually play MMO's with subscription fee. However, that does sound interesting.

Also, Ragnar Tornquist is no longer involved involved with "Secret World" except as consultant at the moment. He and the rest of the team that were initially involved in developing "The Longest Journey" and "Dreamfall" have left Funcom to form a new company called "Red Thread Games" so that they could start work on "Dreamfall Chapters", which they licensed from Funcom. Meanwhile, Funcom has decided to work exclusively on MMO's.

They took the sub out! Only need to pay the box/download price, which is often on sale now. That's why I snatched it up.

I really enjoyed The Longest Journey and Dreamfall (and The Secret World), so I backed this Kickstarter campaign on day one. Glad to see I'm not the only one - they've already raised over $1 million!

So, they've broken Dreamfall Chapters up into 5 episodes. The good news is that the first episode "Reborn" is being released on steam on 21 October, that's on Tuesday.

Oh no!! I really don't like episodic content like that, and I'm always hesitant to start before all episodes are released. Otherwise you just end up finishing an episode on a huge cliffhanger and having to wait a few months again for the next to be released.

Well, if have backed the Kickstarter, then apparently, you will still get the whole thing, i.e. all 5 episodes once all of them have been released. Also, the game was originally planned to be episodal, they just returned to that format once they'd realised that the game ended up being larger than what they had initially planned. Besides, it's not as Dreamfall didn't end on the world's biggest cliffhanger itself and we have waited 8 years for the sequel to that. At least with an episodic release, the wait won't be as long between episodes.
