I want to play games such as "Sim City" and "The Movies" by Lionhead but I feel like constantly misunderstanding game instructions maybe. No matter how hard I try I can't go very far and eventually give up at it. Is gaming any different for AS in this regard? What can I do to remedy this?

Playing the game for a while just to get used to the controls helps a lot. When you feel like you have a handle on it, you could go ahead and restart the game and try again. Reading and watching walkthroughs is helpful as well.

I don't think I know anyone who's played Sim City for more than a few hours at a time. Seems like most of my friends like to build up a nice sized city and then cheat up a couple of major disasters.

With me, when i give up and how far i get depends on the game. For example I've been stuck on the last boss of the first Ninja Gaiden sigma since I bought it in 2008 and I own both Little big planet games for PS3 which i've only played a few times.

Gave up really early on gears of war as well. Would love to do more gaming than i do but its hard when youve got a dependent family and a full time job.

I also own a huge plethora of games which i've completed once and can't be bothered replaying.

Some good points have been mentioned here. One of which was the issue of time. Time is always a problem. For me, it is a combination of time and also attention span. (lack thereof) I feel that I would like to play a game, but I also cannot focus and lose interest. My mind is all over the place most of the time, and this has been the case in the past with games. This too can also vary depending on other factors. It's a bit complex and I don't even fully understand it myself. It was not always this way with games. But it has been for some time now. Anyway, when I am able to focus intently on a game I do very well at them.

Sounds like a good plan to me :)

It generally takes a while for basic game mechanics to "click" with me. Even then, whether or not I find the game compelling enough to keep playing is an entirely different question.

I can't finish books, but mostly because I want to read so many and I can't seem to focus on just one.

It's been said here, but walkthroughs on YouTube work wonders, along with making a game just to learn controls. But one thing I would like to mention about Sim City itself is that there is a lot to absorb. I haven't played The Movies so I can't say anything about that one. But as far as Sim City, take it slow, just work on the basics first. When and only when you get the basics then try some of the harder stuff.

If you don't pick it up right away, don't give up! If you truly want to play Sim City, you will find a way to make it happen. I'm not too knowledgeable about the newer Sim City titles, so there's a ton they've added between when I played and now, but I do know the bare basics, so if you need help with it, let me know. I'll be glad to give advice.
