I have a weird OCD problem with my PS3 games :(

I was wondering if anybody could give me advice on this problem I have? I've recently decided that I want to start getting back into playing video games on my Playstation 3. I still have several games for it, but the problem is that none of them have game manuals because they all got ruined and I decided to throw them all away a few months ago. Now my OCD is causing me to think that I have to have manuals for all these games and I've thought about throwing my old games away and buying replacements, but a part of me knows that it's a pretty stupid thing to do because the games work fine and I never need manuals anyways. Plus I really don't have the money to replace every single game in my collection and some of these are old games that they don't make anymore and it's pretty hard to find them new or even used with the game manuals.

So for all the aspie gamers out there like me, can you please give me some advice on how to deal with OCD when it gets so bad that it keeps me from enjoying my video games just because they're not "perfect"? Is there a way to just get over my obsession and enjoy the games even though they're not "perfect" in my mind?

Would a printout of the manual satisfy your need? They are available online. Other than that, not sure how to help you.

I always see game manuals for sale on eBay.

Though personally, I don't let missing manuals bother me...it's not like in this day and age you will ever, ever need to actually pull it out and crack it open.

I think the newest game I've ever actually needed the manual for was STALKER, and mostly only because it has the CD key printed on the back (but also, IIRC, it has a quick reference for the keys).

In-box manuals for video games have deteriorated to the point where they are often just one or two b/w pages. I miss the manuals of old, with the color maps and detailed descriptions of ridiculous weapons.

I absolutely agree! I also don't like this new trend of digital manuals that you install from the disk.

I understand what you go through - every new thing I buy, I keep boxes for except for things like toothpaste. I keep my ps3 ontop of the box it came in, my fan ontop of the box it came in.. etc. To be honest I don't know.. I'd probably not play it until GTA V comes out, then buy that. Actually, that's what I'm planning... haven't played my console in months. I hope you get through the OCD though, try and get your mind off things.

Yeah its called environmentally friendly game companies. Honestly manuals are a waste anyways. Most games hold your hand so much that who needs the manual. I usually throw the manual away for anything that requires a manual. Not really. Have you ever tried to build a cabinet from walmart without that manual. Never again.

To OP: Anyways if you do need a manual they are always online and at your disposal. But I know obsessions can be really strange and make no logical sense. So maybe this will not work. Did you try just ignoring it and playing the game anyways. It might be worth a shot. I mean unless the obsessions are so severe that you cannot do this. And that can be possible.

Well I have started playing some of these games again without the manuals and the games are still fun. I don't think I could try ordering replacement manuals online because I don't know how to do all that stuff and if I tried to ask somebody to do it for me like my Mom they would probably just say no because they know it's an obsession. I guess I'll just have to try and enjoy these games even without the manuals, one thing that might help is if when I buy new games for my PS3 I get rid of the manuals for those games that way they'll match all my other PS3 games. I know that sounds completely strange but people who suffer from OCD will probably understand it.

My suggestion would be a little extreme, but would you consider trying to throw all the game manuals away, so that you have none instead of trying to fill in the gaps?

Or printing out the manual pages online would work too, actually, as it as previously stated. It's less expensive that way.

Yeah I think I will try that, I don't really need the manuals anyways and as long as I still have the original cases for them that should be enough for me.

OK I think I've gotten over that OCD problem, I've been playing my favorite games for the PS3 and just been ignoring the fact that they don't have manuals. The games are still really fun and I've been able to relax and just enjoy myself. I've been playing games like Resident Evil 5, Siren New Translation (imported game), Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, and Yakuza 4. I know that the PS3 will probably be dead soon now that the PS4 has been announced but I'm just gonna enjoy my games and maybe save for a couple of new cheap ones. I've had my eye on both Grand Theft Auto IV and Batman Arkham Asylum at Walmart.
