Decided to start playing it soon; has anyone else tried it yet?

I used to play it regularly, before my desktop computer died. My friend and my brother still play it regularly, and I miss it; I've been wanting to get back into it with them, but I can't until I can fix my computer.

I've been playing this on and off for like 6 years, silly only got as far as having getting the Cyclone ( though it is nicely kitted out :p )

Currently I've suspended my subs to it , as it consumes way too much of my time xD

I began playing in January, was really into it, but a combination of credit card trouble, general disillusionment after the poor logistics during the E-Uni vs RvB war, and drastically cutting my videogame time made me leave. It was fun while it lasted though.

You should play X3: Albion Prelude. It's a lot like EVE, only without annoying people or a monthly fee. XD

Seems interesting. Though I just wish my ship wasn't so damn lopsided. It looks like a bird with a missing chromosome 8O

I tried a free trial.

Is there more to this than mining asteroids, buying bigger ships, and mining even more asteroids, and getting even bigger ships?

Sure, eventually I did some cargo runs, but even though is it has a pleasant visual look it seems to feel like it should be called Space Tycoon. I also did a few space battles when running missions.

I kind of wish you could have many pilots and ships you could delegate jobs to. For all I know maybe you can do this and I just didn't get very deep into the game on a trial.

^ actually you can. only those people you delegate jobs to are not npc's, they would be other human players. All things in Eve except for space stations, missions and the police are player run. Mining and hauling is usually considered grunt work (although hauling mega corps do exist, or smuggling stuff through hostile territory where hostility is also other players)
Almost makes me want to return  but I'd get sucked into it hard.

Really? People would agree to have mining drudgery assigned to them? :?

So for example if you play a week and get a decent ship with cargo space and lots of heavy mining lasers would you offer to mine for someone in return for money or protection? I guess it would be a laid back way to play running back and forth in between web browsing.

I do sometimes think of returning to a game like this even if it's an alternative to EVE. My laptop is to worn out for modern games so I got a XBox 360. When that breaks or I sell it I will go back to PC Gaming and not get the XBox One.

I've been playing EvE for a few years, and I have found it useful in exploring some aspects of my aspergers. I started off as many do running mining and keeping out of other folks way, but now I'm a recruiter in RvB.

I've always considered it the perfect aspi game, and my son (who's a programmer for Rockstar) thinks EvE players are the geeks idea of a geek :)

I was running missions and mining for about six years (with breaks). Either late last year or earlier this year (I forget) I joined the Gallente militia to try to get into regular PvP, which is easily the most fun part of EVE, unless you genuinely enjoy the industrial and PvE side of things. About a month ago, my friend convinved me to join Fatal Ascension, one of the major alliances in EVE and part of the CFC (headed by Goonswarm). Since then I've had more fun than in my previous 7 years, though I've also stayed up way too late in 250-pilot battleship fleets fighting the war over the Fountain region that's going on at the moment.

tl;dr - Get into PvP/fleet warfare. :D

PvP is the way to go. RvB teamed up with the Goons in the last Jita battle, plus having the honor of taking down the E-UNI pos in their home system. You should guest-join our null sec gank roams, or come over for our FFA's, last big one we destroyed 35,000 frigs over 3 days at no cost to the players as we provided the ships :D
