My Pokemon Blue and Crystal still work even though I got them when I was just a kid. Does the internal battery only mean that the game stops saving or does it mean the game stops working an is unplayable? The internal clock for my Pokemon Emerald died, but it's still playable.

My understanding is that the game can still make and access the save game slots.
However, because the game clock becomes dysfunctional it would affect things like a cycle of night to day (or anything else which is time dependent)
But there are other people here who are much more knowledgeable about this, I think.

You can still play the games with a dead battery but you will be unable to load a saved game. That means you will have to start the game from the beginning every time you play.

I've heard to is pretty easy to replace the battery and I would recommend looking up a tutorial on youtube if you are interested in playing those games again.

I can't bring myself to boot up my Red, Gold or Silver games since the batteries died and thus my save data with them :(

I now consider Master status being catching every Pokemon at least once, as I no longer have my old gen Pokemon and I only have 1 friend who still plays the games....that reminds me, I should really get back into my Pokemon White version to finish the Unova Pokedex...

Really ? Well, that's pretty duff if you can't even save the game.
This answers my question in a different topic, about whether I should play Pokemon Silver, or get one of the newer versions instead.

I know I did when it costs $25 per game, rather than like $5 for a battery.

I sold mine on Ebay instead.
It went for £14, which was more than I expected to get for it.
And, a lot more than I got it for.
Somebody else can fiddle about changing the battery if they want to.

Have you ever tried doing it yourself? It's pretty easy.

This first time I heard about this was when I was watching a review on every Simpson's GameBoy game. Unfortunately, the guy couldn't review Night of the Living TreeHouse of Horror for Game Boy Color because of a dead battery. The game just absolutely refused to work.
Do I have to worry about this for GBA or NDS games?
