Anyone going to get the Day Z standalone? I've been thinking about playing the mod for a while and now I have a friend who is playing it but I'm wary of games with high time commitments because I've screwed myself over before getting overly invested in fictional universes.

Has anyone played day Z?

What kind of time commitment is it?

is it stress releasing or stress causing?

Are you planning to get/ play it?

I would like to play a demo first, but I doubt that will happen. Maybe when it's on sale some day I will pick it up.

I've heard that the original mod was amazing.

I'm planning on getting it when it goes on sale, but 30$ is a bit steep for an Early Access Alpha.

If you have the money, I say go for it. Just be aware that it might have a few bugs.

*Note: I haven't played either the mod or standalone.

It seems like a very neat game. I'd like to play it.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to play any online games except EVE for the last eight months as I had to move house and where I am now doesn't have a good enough cable connection so I'm having to use satellite until sometime next year. But the mod was probably the one game I've played most in the last two years and I would recommend both the standalone and just the mod in general from that, the standalone has less content currently than the mod, but it runs better and has less bugs even in it's alpha state.

That's the cheapest it's going to be for a long time. It'll only get more expensive as it gets updated. I expect the reason why the price is so steep is because Rocket and co, held the game back a year because their aspirations far outweighed what they'd originally planned so they decided to put more work into it and make it f*****g amazing and they just need to cover their asses from the lack of incoming funds.

so I picked up the game and here was my experience:

The game is a little clunkey, but otherwise works pretty well.

I had a lot of fun regardless of any other issues.

Team play seems like a pain in the ass. Vehicles are not implemented yet and the map is HUGE! There is no in-game map/minimap (which is fine) but all of the places are in russian which makes communicating a real pain. You get spawned random places as well so linking up can be hard.

Zombies are not very good at killing you and are a little glitchy.

Players with either KOS or try to be friends and are the most fun part of the game.

Randomized loot tables make looting more urgent since you never know where you will find what. Different spots spawn a category of loot, so a suburban garage will usually have some bullets and a backpack, for example.

It's a fun game but it has a very long way to go.

I enjoyed the ArmaII mod but there's far too much admin abuse.

look, i'm going to put it bluntly here. It's a nightmare of a game if you play it solo. The zombies are the least of your problems, the real problem is the other players. I played the mod version and if you're not careful, you will be threatened for your gear and stuff because you were in the wrong place at the wrong time. i mean seriously. I played it with one of my friends and we ended up getting chased out of a town by a horde of players. not zombies, Paranoid players who don't realize it's just a game.
