anyone around here ever mod a game? I modded Saint's row 3, I used to just mods other people made, but since the mods I want don't exist, as far as I know, I decided to mod SR3 myself, of course to do that you need mod tools, which are available for that game. anyway, So, if you could make the perfect mod for any game what would it be? what game and mod? I decided I would make a mod for SR3 that would spawn my favorite vehicles from this game, Military Tanks!

For those who don't mod games: He means "Modify", not "Moderate".

Minecraft has a huge modding community with hundreds of mods.
The Elder scrolls games & Fallout 3 which use the same game engine have a construction kit.
Civilization IV & V also have modding tools.

If it's made by id(Doom, Quake, Rage, etc), I can almost guarantee you that they'll be fairly easy to mod. In fact, id practically encourages it.

Unreal, UT99 and UT2004 imo.

Even made custom content for it myself and I'm an idiot.

I thought I posted in this thread already, but I guess maybe I didn't.

I've been modding since the late 90s...started with Quake...tried doing a few things for DOOM, Quake II, and Half-Life, but never got very far. I've done a few ROM hacks too, but mostly only graphical ones, I'm not too knowledgable about ASM hacking or anything like that.

Lots of Quake mods, but most of them I've not finished. I did work on Nexuiz, though.

if you have Gamemaker pro, its possible to pretty much make your own doom style games from scratch.

Theres a ton of copypasta available for the programming.

If you want to make Quake style games you should get FPSC. I can't emphasise that enough.

Copypasta?

Little reason to make a Quake style game from scratch when the Quake engine is already there, and super easy to modify every single aspect of it. With the source code having been released, there are so many source ports, you can take Darkplaces and (if you have the artistic skills) come out with something that looks better than DOOM 3, and you can be certain it will run on multiple OSes. Heck, you don't even have to make an FPS, you can make just about anything with it, even in 2D if you're clever (and patient enough): http://www.inside3d.com/frikbot/tetris/tetris.jpg

Although there is one catch...if you ever wish to release your mod/game commercially, there are a few legal issues to hurdle over (especially if you wish to keep it closed-source).

When they brought Nexuiz over to consoles, they got around this by basically making an entirely different game in a different engine (CryEngine 3, I think?).
