The Big 3 Fighting Games

OK... Check this out..

I have selected the 3* great fighting franchises** for comparison... They are:

- Mortal Kombat
- Street Fighter
- Tekken

*Sorry, Virtua Fighter, DOA and Soul Calibur.. but a line had to be drawn...
**No, Super Smash Bros doesn't count. It simply imports characters from other franchises.

Then I have selected 6 characters from each franchise, using existing rankings found on the internet for reference... So, who is you favourite?

... oh, and as always: They are in alphabetical order. No ranking intended.

And if you disagree with my selection, then get over here and post your favourite.

Normally I jump into fighting game topics pretty easily, but... depends on the games. Aint fond of Capcom's stuff, never was, particularly their fighting games. Tekken is..... okay, I guess. Typically though I prefer Arc's games (they're much faster & more aggressive games, works well for my non-existent patience), AKA Guilty Gear (my favorite), Blazblue, and Persona 4 Arena. Best characters from those, Bridget, Noel, and Labrys, respectively.


As for the games mentioned HERE, I do like Mortal Kombat enough at least, though I wasnt aware it was one of the three "greats" right now, though I aint the most attentive sort, so that's normal for me. Certainly nobody I meet ever seems to care about it, feh.

But picking one from THAT game, I'll go with Scorpion, because he's freaking Scorpion. With that quite iconic move that is so hard to forget (and much fun to use).

Not to mention nostalgia value... MK was the first fighting game I ever really got into waaaaayyyyyy back when.

I picked Sub-Zero because that's who I used to always play as way back in the day, at least on the original without the mechanical humans.

Is Mister Roger a tip to "The Ultimate Battle of Ultimate Destiny?"

Probably would vote for Zack from DoA. He was just a wacky guy to play and watch. His teletubby outfit was pretty amusing to see in action.

That or Rugal from the KoF series. I liked his style of fighting. It reeked of power and coolness.


If I had to pick from the "big 3" fighting games, I'd choose Akuma. For almost the same reason as Rugal. I also liked how he combo'd his moves together.

Best character to play as, or best in some other way?

Dhalsim. Beating the other opponents in Street Fighter II (and all derivatives) is child's play after choosing him.

I was actually thinking bout Yoshimitsu a little while ago. It comes close between him and Sub-Zero. Since he would easily win in a fight between them (mostly because of his freezeball spam attack), I'll go with Sub-Zero.

Out of what you call the big 3, my favorite is a tie between Cammy & Sakura.

But, out of all fighting games:

Smash Bros ( my personal fave ): Peach, Link, Falcon & Ness

Man when I think of Scorpion from Mortal Combat I think of the line " Get over here!"
Scorpion is about the coolest dude in a video game. Ever. Nuff said.

Based on who I like to play with most/my best fighters.

Street Fighter: Akuma, then Ryu and Sagat
Mortal Kombat: Liu Kang... as a kid I wasn't too good at MK (although I watched others play), haven't played in a long time. I do remember spamming LKs Fireballs and that he can jump plus shoot.
Tekken: Lee, Paul, then Hehachi

Other fighting games...

Soul Calibur: Sophitia, Mitsurugi, then Taki
Super Smash Bros: Falco, then Peach, Pikachu, Ganondorf, Sonic
Bloody Roar: Chronos, Gado, then Xion
... can't think of anymore fighting series right now.
