New versions of very old consoles?

I got these newer versions of some old consoles for Christmas. I didn't even know they still made these things. it was a Sega Genesis and an Atari with built in games. the Genesis can use the old game cartridges too. but the Atari can not... and the Atari is missing a lot of the better games for the system, Pac-Man and that one Submarine game where you shoot at sharks and rescue divers are not on there. So the Atari has disappointed me. the Genesis has some pretty good games on it though. So... I guess you can call them reboot consoles or something? I'm still not sure what to think of them. I mean I like the Genesis, but I feel like this version of the Atari was watered down or something. Anyone else ever heard of these or seen them anywhere? What do you think of these remakes or whatever they are called? I'm just a little conflicted about it.

I saw them being sold at Wal-Mart. I don't know what to think either. I'd like to know the full library it comes with. The rest I'd get in cartridges sold in stores that still sell them. It'd be nice to play my old Genesis games again plus more titles I've never played. Another question I have is does it hook up to the TV like old genesis (which would be really difficult now) or like modern consoles with just red, white, and yellow audio/video plugs? I never looked at the box long enough to find out.

...wait, what? Have you PLAYED the 2600 version of Pac-Man? It's considered one of the worst games of all time! Even I think it's bloody horrible, and I usually dont get that negative about games on these older consoles. No, seriously, I even like ET on the 2600 (partly because I actually know what I'm doing in it).

Are you sure you're not thinking of Ms. Pac-Man? THAT one was actually very good, the direct opposite of the horrid port of the original.

But anyway, you wont see those on there for the same reason you wouldnt see something like Donkey Kong on there: licensing issues. Namco owns the Pac-Man stuff, so... yeah. It wouldnt have happened.


As for the devices themselves, I bought the Colecovision one myself... this being because I dont have an actual one... there wasnt any point in me buying the Atari one because I have a 7800 about a foot away from this keyboard and 2600/7800 games just all over the place, so... yeah, I already got that. But yeah, I've been quite enjoying the thing. Easy to hook up, easy to run, the controllers are good (well, as good as Colecovision replicas can be... alot of people still wont like the bizarre things anymore than they did back then; I dont have issues with them though), and there's a ton of games on there that all work just as they should. Very well worth it for the price I paid.

Also it hooks up with the red/white/yellow things. Fortunately.

Those consoles are either licensed or unlicensed products.
The Sega one is Chinese and is using an emulator to run the games and carts.
Though it is now licensed.

Seaquest, from Activision.

I liked the Atari Flashback 2.0 (which did have two Activision titles, Pitfall! and River Raid), but these new things from AtGames are very shoddy, they're all emulators instead of real hardware, and it seems like AtGames can't figure out how to emulate audio properly. I've played one of their Genesis models, and half of the games sounded so terrible, I had to put the TV on mute.

I have their Intellivision model, and it's not that bad (don't know how well the controllers compare to the real thing), but Tower of Doom has an awful glitch in it where you can't fight any monsters or be effected by any traps =| Makes the game a little pointless to play.
