What kinds of problems are you having?
Steam itself doesnt care.... or notice.... wether or not you have a wireless connection. I have both, my PC having a wired connection since the modem sits right next to it (it connects to the router though, not directly into the modem), and my laptop using the wireless from the router.
Both work exactly the same, at the same speeds. And that's just at one house; I have three, and taking the laptop to any of them, each having different wireless routers/modems and speeds and connection types, or even taking it to a hotel with typical horrible wifi of sadness and tragedy... it still works in all of these places. Though slowly of course when dealing with hotel internet. I hate that.
And Steam itself is well-built... I've not seen it crash or anything like that.
So it makes me think that there's probably something else involved, as is unfortunately often the case with PC related stuffs, particularly anything involving going online.
If you can describe the problem you're having in detail, it might be possible to help you with it.

Steam used to crash on me all the time before the SteamPipe update. I really hated using it when I was younger because it was just so bloated and resource intensive. Nowadays, it's not that bad at all, and it actually seems to be fairly well optimized, though it used to be terrible.
Anyway, what particular games are you having problems with? I know TF2 and other Source engine games have really finicky netcode, though strangely, earlier GoldSrc-based games (like Counter Strike 1.6, Team Fortress Classic) tend to be more resilient.

I just googled CD Projekt Red. What is it about their software that you find so objectionable? The only controversial thing I could find was their advocacy against DRM which is a good thing for gamers isn't it?

CD Projekt Red is known for developing the Witcher series, which is somewhat notorious for featuring a rather surprising amount of nudity for a western RPG. The first game was censored for its North American release, but I think they dropped the censorship for the later games, as well as going on to release an uncensored "special edition" of the first game for the NA market. Other than that, and the graphic violence, which is pretty much to be expected of nearly any AAA game nowadays, I don't see what in particular would be objectionable.
I think they're a good company, however. While the Witcher series doesn't exactly interest me, what I do like is GoG.com. They are probably Steam's greatest competitor, and with their huge selection of classic games made to work on modern PCs, good prices, and anti-DRM stance, I just can't help but love them. Not to mention, back when Steam's client program was still all bloated and dysfunctional, it was a breath of fresh air being able to buy games through a digital distribution service that didn't require a client program.
They sell games made by anyone who wants to use their service to sell games.... just like any other vendor.
....why would it be different?
The only "objectionable" groups are typically ones like EA and such, if that. And even then, stuff they do isnt Valve's fault.
As it is, most people seem to really like the Witcher games, so..... I'm curious as to what this group has done, really.

I like GoG.com. I don't have any connection issues with them.

Steam causes my computer to lag out so much that it crashes.
