To prevent bullying, a ban is placed on players who aggressively attack a specific player during group matches. It was originally supposed to be 15 minutes but a glitch makes it last for 71,582,030 minutes.

Wait a ban for progressively attacking a player? isn't like the whole point of a fighting game to aggressively attack people?

Online matches outside of ranked mode are typically 4-player matches (sometimes 3). In a 4 player match, if you focus on attacking only one player pretty much the whole time, it's almost like trolling/bullying/griefing. Like, there's 3 opponents, but you just want to make sure that this ONE has a bad time, even if the other two should attack you.

It would be really annoying if you were just screwing around with a friend, or if you were trying to go for one person because they were cheating etc

And I doubt a 150 year ban just for targeting someone during a smash bros match is really justifiable (even though it is just a glitch)

Well, typically if you're playing with friends, you're not doing it in the 'play against random people' mode, which is where the rules/bans come into play. If you're just playing with friends in a match that you set up with them, it's not going to care... you can do whatever you want.

The rules just exist so that there's less of people going into the game JUST to be jerks to random opponents online. It sucks to get into a random match in any competetive game, and find that someone is not following rules or abusing something or other.... so that's why it's there.

As a rule, you really just dont have to worry about it much when actually playing. 4-way random matches are typically very chaotic, and JUST attacking one person is a bloody stupid tactic bound to get you launched off the stage, and of course 1-on-1 matches dont have these issues at all.

Good point, but the ban times this bug causes are still absolutely ridiculous
