Well, we still have time to make a top games here.
I'll call this a top 5 but feel free to increase it for you if you need. Also, the priority is to put only games that came out in 2014 on the list, so if you put something that you played last year but it came out on 2013 or before make sure to say it.

5 - Middle Earth - Shadows of Mordor
I was so happy to be surprised with this game. My brother bought it for me on christmas and it was one of the last games that i played because i was sure that there were nothing there for me to be impressed. I was so wrong lol and in the and i was shocked by the quality of this game. I didn't like the combat system too much but it's far from bad and what impressed me was the Nemesis system. Killing orcs leaders and watching new ones taking their place, being killed and watching the one who killed you getting stronger (and even mocking you) and taking advantage of the internal fight of the orcs clan to progress is something that is done in this game in a way that i've never seen anything like it in any other game that i played.
4 - Diablo 3 - Ultimate Evil Edition
I can't remember of a game that i enjoyed so much to play with other people, and perhaps that's what impressed me the most about Diablo 3. I never played the first games but this one have made me like the "pure grinding" type of game like i've never done before. There's something so good in seeing that orange light of legendary items appear on the screen that it almost look like some hypnotizing thing xD
3 - Shovel Knight
Well, there isn't too much to say here. The game just makes me feel exactly what i expect to feel when they announce a "old school" type of platformer. The sound track, the stages, the difficulty, the characters... Everything is so polished and on the right place. By far one the most fun things i've played on my 3DS.
2 - Bravely Default
I don't know when was the last time that i enjoyed a RPG this much almost entirely from it's gameplay features. The story it's not bad, but it's not exceptional either and for me it's the gameplay that makes Bravely Default shine. The job system is so complete and so nicely done. I could create brutal combos with almost any combination of jobs just by setting the right skills and weapons to the right person. The maps were "ok" i guess but at least there was always something hidden somewhere to encourage me to explore. There are also small details like controlling the monster spawn rate that it's something so simple and that makes such a good impact on the gameplay that makes me wonder why there aren't more games (of course games that use random battles) that use this. I could turn it entirely down so i could explore without monsters bothering me or i could put it on max if i wanted to level up fast. It's simple and genial. The characters are also very well done and even with the weird/bad part of the game that happens during the final chapters i couldn't feel bored with this one.
1 - Bayonetta 2
Oh God, the action of this game. I haven't played the first bayonetta too much when it launched and only played it on Wii U as a prequel to the second one. The visuals, the combos... HER! Everything is so exaggerated in a good way that sometimes it gets funny. The boss fights are so amazing and the visual effects were so good that there were times when i was so hooked watching what was going on that i forgot to play. The combo system is very good, going from an easy one button smash to a complex combo system if you want. There is also so much to do after beating the game that it was the game that i played the most "after-beating" last year. It's pure fun.

Divinity: Original Sin - A classless-character RPG with fantastic dialogue, lots of room to roam, and plenty to do. It's fairly difficult and requires a lot of talking and exploring, but the battles have a fun environmental element. Fire arrows can ignite terrain, and electric ones can zap anyone standing in water (your party included). I wound up losing a lot of battles to surprise explosions.

Crypt of the NecroDancer - Rhythm/roguelike hybrid that's currently in alpha. It has simple graphics but incredibly addicting gameplay, good music, and a lot of challenges. Hard because there's so much to keep track of mentally, not because of poor design.

5) Bravely Default A great innovation on turn based RPG. Decent story with a decent cast.
The second half really was irritating.

4)Mario Kart 8: It literally did everything right. All those little animations and stares. Oh that first expansion pack was soo damn good!

3)Shovel Knight:
Shoveling has never been so good!!

2)Hyrule Warriors: some how they got it to work and work well. It's way more fun than it should be. The expansion packs added a lot for $20 (if you buy the bundle).

1)Captain Toad: Nintendo heard my pleas and this game was born. It is the most fun and refreshing game I've played in a long while.

1. Nuclear Throne Omigod. It's like this game was made specifically for me. 140+ hours of time spent with it... wont be stopping anytime soon. With the devs updating every week, it just keeps getting better and better. So... good...

2. Smash Bros U I really dont like Nintendo much. At all. Havent for a very long time. Hate them. Finally though, after so many years, there was actual reason for me to pick up one of their devices... and Smash is most of that reason. And it definitely turned out to be worth it.

3. Five Nights at Freddy's 1 & 2 It finally happened. FINALLY. Someone put out a horror game that gets it RIGHT. Usually, uncreative developers that are designing a horror game just stick as much gore in it as possible, add some big flashy monsters, and then give you some damn stupid guns. Because, you know, EVERY protagonist in horror stories has access to assault rifles and rocket launchers. Freddy's though... yeah, it doesnt need that, and it doesnt use that. Instead, it produces it's scary stuff by first making you feel extremely helpless with a sense of inevitable, slowly advancing doom. These things after you, you cant beat them. You cant fight them. You cant even leave the office, because that'd be near-instant suicide, as they'd be waiting for you. All you've got is doors (or in the second game, a mask that capitalizes on the fact that the animatronics arent always very perceptive) and of course, a camera. That's pretty much it. And you need to survive ANYWAY. Combine this with characters made of nightmare fuel that are somehow also appealing and very memorable (seriously, everyone seems to love the heck outta those guys, murderous though they may be), and BAM, you have the start of a winning formula. And it takes this and just runs with it, adding in a really messed up story in the background.

4. LittleBigPlanet 3 OMG it's LBP 3. After all this time. I could make ANYTHING with this. There's soooooo many features now, so many possibilities. And as usual, plenty of stuff to do in the actual gameplay. Online play is just as hilarious as it ever was.

5. Goat Simulator Yes, really. Goat Simulator. It started out as a joke, but the devs quickly found that they had inadvertantly came up with something that had potential, so they ran with it. And in this, they knew that games were supposed to be about FUN, so that's what this game is. Do whatever hilarious stuff comes to mind, unlock all sorts of crazy abilities, add in mods that put in even more crazy abilities. And KEEP THE GLITCHES. It's seriously hilarious, and I really dont tire of it. It's a great way to relieve some stress, for that matter.
