The brilliant thing about it, I think, is how characters speak... notice how different they are from city to city. Jahara is full of would-be shamans, Eruyt is full of mystical introverts. While in Bhujerba nearly everyone speaks in code.

I never understood why people hated XII so much, actually it's my favorite Final Fantasy.
All right, the story is not the most well elaborated thing in the world and the characters aren't as heavily stereotyped as most of the famous characters of the serie are, but the gameplay is so good!
The combat, the level up system, the gambit system, the equips, the drops and, of course, the hunt system which I was sooo addicted to.
Even though I'm a little tired of this whole "HD remaster" thing, this one is one of the few that I would 100% again if it come out (and it probably will).

I don't think there's some majority who hates it, just as the majority of players don't necessarily love FF7, which I consider overrated (6 IMO has the best storyline)... they're all unique, really, with 12 concentrating on politics, 10 on religion, 7 on environmentalism... 9 possibly on identity and existentialism, 8 being the most 'academic' of all, 6 about espers/magic, not sure about 5.... 4 goes to the moon, so astronomical, 2 has empires too... 1 being mostly a template for all afterwards.
