I plan on purchasing a new current generation console soon and was wondering which console you'd all think I would be better off with. Also which one of the two do you own? What are notable attributes you dislike and like about it. If you have both which one do you use more? The majority of people I know face-to-face have the PS4, but the people I play with the majority of the time have the Xbone. I've been leaning towards the Xbone because Halo 5. One major thing I hate about the Xbone though is the UI of the guide.

If you happen to be a fan of JRPGs you should go for a PS4, no question about it. If not, then you should check for what exclusives you want. The PS4 is the most powerfull console, but it shouldn't matter much.

Technically the Wii U has the most exclusives, followed by the 3DS and Vita.
PS4 and Xbox One share most of their libraries with very few first party exclusives.
Though you can practically all the 3rd party games on PC as well.

I have a Wii U, 3DS and still a decently powered aging out Macbook Pro (I have Windows on it and it can still play most new computer games... Some I have to tone down the graphics to medium settings), thus have no need for another console until Nintendo launches their next system.

(I'm very much addicted to playing Nintendo's newest game Splatoon... May need help soon)

If you really want Halo 5 make sure you nab this Xbox One Edition

Image

It comes with:

Halo 5 digital edition with bonus content
Headset
1TB hard drive
Limited edition controller (you can buy another Halo 5 Edition controller as well)
$499.99
Releasing 10.27.15

Xbox One advantages over PS4 and Wii U:
*Better multimedia playback and capabilities
*Suspend and resume function
*Voice commands (if you have Kinect attached)
*Better 1st party support and exclusives over PS4 (not up to Wii U yet)
*Better online infrastructure (PSN is regularly down)
*Chat pad for controller
*Elite controller if you want it
*Superior online features
*Better UI based on Windows 10 this fall (PS4's UI is crap, Wii U has simplicity UI [which I prefer])
*Software based backwards compatibility on select games (based on developers approval)
Etc...

PS4 has over everyone else is:
*More power
*Share button/twitch upload
*Soon to get YouTube uploads (in Update 3.0)
*More 3rd party exclusives (not by much)
*Worse customer service
*No refunds for digital preorders on PSN
*No loyalty program
*More non Nintendo Japanese games
*Premiere version of Call of Duty
Though you need to pay $50 a year for PSN+ if you wish to game online.

Wii U:
*Off TV play (yeah most games let you play on the controller's screen)
*Miiverse for posting about games from your 3DS, Wii U, in game, and PC (no screenshot posting from PC)
*Bayonetta 2 exclusive
*Best Sonic game of this gen as of now
*Splatoon (Nintendo's colorful shooter)
*Nintendoland (yeah it's a really fun collection of mini games)
*Super Mario Maker (You will be able to make 2D Mario levels come 9/11)
*The most first party and total system exclusives of this gen to date
*Loads of retro titles on the eShop, including select Wii games (Sony hasn't put retro PS1-3 titles up on PSN yet)
*True backwards compatibility with Wii
*Tons of indie games
*Full cross play in games that have multiplatform releases (only PS4 and PC do this too)
*Free online play
*New loyalty program launching this fall for 3DS, Wii U and future systems

Can be bought refurbished (most are new consoles) from Nintendo for $200.

Personally I own a PS4, but I'm not gonna bother you with that. It depends on the aspects you wanna focus on.

The xbox one is good for social media, and watching tv. It has lots of exclusives and backwards compatibility, wich is great if you missed a game on xbox 360 and feel like playing it now. Note that the OS is a half-assed version of Windows 8, wich can be quite confusing. Also you need Internet to install games, even for the physical copies.

For the PS4, you got better hardware, wich means better graphics and more stable framerate, but it still doesn't match with PC of course. The customer service is awful. The controller is easy to adapt to and feels nice in the hands. You can also stream games on playroom or even on Twitch. There a bundle coming with The Last of Us Remastered edition. If you choose to buy a PS4, Infamous: Second Son is a must-play. The gameplay is awesome and its in 1080p 60 fps.
