Engineering game idea
This would play like sim city or a strategy game:
• You have energy (in Joules), which you spend to perform tasks.
• You have a palette of raw material (elements) which you can use to build machines or structures with.
• You have scientists and technicians at your disposal
Scientists can either research goals/opportunities, or they can focus on obstacles within a goal or shortcomings in what you build. You'd have to be a genius to identify and solve problems without some help from the scientists, so they'd break your problems into math and science if you couldn't, and even simplify the math and guide you towards a solution. Having scientists focused on problems means fewer will be looking for new goals though, and slow the game progress; in other words, you'd spend more time in the stone-age and take longer to get to the space-age. You ultimately achieve goals and overcome obstacles by spending energy with the use of machines at your disposal.
Technicians can implement your designs, they build the machines and facilities you want.
I hope the details aren't too vague. The overall premise here is that you're an engineer innovating society into the galactic age with the help of your team.
