The video game that nobody asked for (unless I'm living under a rock), but that we're getting anyways. Even better its actually shaping up to look good...even great...possibly the BEST. . I've had a very very long love hate relationship with Lord of the Rings games since the early 2000's (not including games based on the Hobbit). The only games I come back to every few years is The Third Age (GBA) and BFME 1 (PC). Other games like The Return of the King (console), The Third Age (console), BFME 2 (PC) were all decent but never really great. I blame copyright issues. Other very recent attempts that are very loose with both real lore and movie lore will not be named here...
Trailer is spot on. Quality of the music is always a good indicator I find.

What is it? If Gollum is the playable character, I imagine it doesn't really have much action in it. Unless it's like Alien Vs Predator, using the ring as a stealth mechanic?

Yes, Gollum is the playable character. Its described as a "mixture of stealth-action and interactive narrative gameplay". Considering Gollum is in Mordor and Barad-dûr is rebuilt I would say it takes place between the Hobbit and FOTR, so I doubt there will be a Ring mechanic because Gollum doesn't have the ring at that time.
