Crash is always acting like he's as dumb as any idiot comes, but he has no trouble stopping the evil ambitions of Dr. Cortex. He also has no trouble driving cars, flying planes, or using any gadget required to get through a level. He even piloted a Mechabandicoot during the final boss of Twinsanity.

Is being able to pilot any sort of contraption we encounter a typical ASD trait?

I would have figured the exact opposite to be more typical of ASD, not bothering to try to use tools we're unfamiliar with to avoid leaving our comfort zone.

I enjoy the Crash Bandicoot character & series.

I'm not sure how a marsupial would be autistic though. He seems sociable enough.

I'm not really a fan of Crash, I only played Crash Bandicoot II on the Playstation One when I was still in my 20s and found it INSANELY hard and frustrating.

But I'm really sure that's the exact idea the writers had. "Let's create a mascot for Sony that's like Sonic or Mario but we'll make him autistic". Sarcasm.

If he does have autistic traits, they're very stereotypical. Idiot savant syndrome a la that Rain Man guy, who in real life wasn't actually autistic.
