Anyone else love the heck outta this game? I sometimes have trouble getting a good map at the right difficulty, but when everything clicks into place, *man* there just aren't many gaming experiences that compare to it. Anyone else play it a lot?

I like it, but can't play it on Linux so I haven't played it in years. I was a bigger fan of Civ 1 and especially Civ 2, though.

Have you heard that Civ 4 is in production and should be out by the end of this or the next year (not sure which)?

Love the game, I used to own civ-1&2&3, lost 1&2 to time and the scattering of things in a divorce, my civ-3 got broken in the move to where I live now, but I bought a new one :).
but I have been too busy to play it any of the last few months, esp on line.
I learned and mastered and beat 1 & 2 with ease on the hardiest setting (where I like playing the most) I am still working on mastering civ -3 though.

Meh. Liked Civ II better; for one, it had better add-on scenarios. The World of Jules Verne was an awesome Fantastic Worlds level, and don't forget their Midgard scenario.

Plus, they took out Spies in Civ III. That made me really mad as now how am I going to play terrorist and leave suitcase nukes in enemy capitols to prevent them from reaching Alpha Centauri?

I'm quite the fan of the game. My neighbour and I play it online sometimes too. I'm fond of the new resources system, having to have certain resources to build certain units means trade can be strategically important and it gives a greater incentive to make peace and be diplomatic which means a more realistic game can be had. Borders and culture are fantastic too, they give peaceful nations a chance at succeeding and make wars much more difficult.

Maybe when I get more practice  At this point Warlord is too easy but Regent is too hard for me, I feel like I gotta spend more time improving my understanding.

Hey AntiEverything, I've sent you a bunch in the past 24 hours which, for some reason are just sitting in my outbox and not going anywhere. So I guess you aren't able to read them. Anyway, I didn't even think to take different time zones into account until it was 6:40 and you still weren't there  so that might be the problem. Anyway, since the PM thing doesn't seem to be working too well for immediate communication, we should probably stick to AIM (I gave you my screenname) or e-mail if you're not comfortable with talking over AIM

CIV II sucked the life out of me, and to avoid it from obessing me during the school year, I played it for 12 hours straight to "burn out".

god, I love that game. but I need to work, go to school, so I simply cannot risk touching it.

I like building up my empire as large as possible. 150-200 engineers is the norm for me.

civ1 and civ2 were the best. I never quite enjoyed 3 so much due to the resources nonsense. 4 is comming out, if you haven't seen the civ-addicts commercial yet, check it out, sid mier (the creator of the series) is in it.

If Civ IV has an editing tool as good (or better) than that of Fantastic Worlds, then I'll give it some notice. I've heard in interviews that the editor is supposed to get so into the game system that one could theoretically make the game an RTS. Me, the only thing I would change would be to add a turn-based "tactical combat" option, allowing for units like spotters, off-screen artillery, combat medics, etc.
