So a lot of games of late seem to be using norse mythology you know like world of warcraft, the Tales Series etc. and lately I have been seeing more Asian mythologies start popping up more boldly than ever before. Now don't get me wrong I don't mind game developers using norse mythology and Asian mythologies but what I would love to see is games use native European, African and American mythologies as an inspiration for a change. So what do all yawl think hmmm should developers use native mythologies in games? Oh also should they use primitive or advanced technology? Personally I want them to use primitive tools in the game because I think we have done advanced technology to death and yes swords, metal spear, modern bows all go into that category in my opinion.

BTW if you haven't figure it out I am huge fan of prehistory my obsession with the old people makes even some autistic obsessions look like they should only hold weight of a yoctogram.

Many games have had religious inspiration or references for years.
The summon spells in the old final fantasy games where based off gods or figures from different religions, such as leviathan from the bible, and shiva from hinduism.

Xenogears almost did not get released to North America due to its strong christian references. Japanese players don't see the religions references as a big deal because to them christanity is more of a art then a religion.

So by European, do you mean Celtic? Just wanted to know.

I also think that there should be games based on Africa, Middle Eastern, Oceanic, and American mythologies. We've done Norse, Eastern Asia, and Graeco/Roman mythology to death, and the advance technology has been don to death too. The only problem is that with African and American Mythology you have different stories different tribes made, and I think you have to get your research right if you're making a game based on one tribe. But--theres a but--you might can make it with African or American Mythology in general. It might be hard, but there's a way to do it, if you know what I mean.

Also, there should have games with creatures based on religion. Judaism is full of angels, demons, and other creatures like Leviathan, Behemoth, and Lilith (although Lilith has been done to death too.)

Just a point I wanted to make.

By European I mean the people who original settled parts of europe hundreds perhaps millions of years ago. Anyways don't count on Middle Eastern religions because their are some very whacked out muslims, out their, I don't know if you heard about it but Nintendo had to remove two things from the Ocarina of time

1.) The music from the fire temple here is the original

2.) The Crest on the Mirror shield which was a star and crescent moon

Anyways about the other religions I think if the developers do enough research, put quality first then things will be perfect ^_^

Well Prey had some native american mythology, I think there is some greek myth games, and I think that a lot of celtic myth gets mixed in with other things. Just for example Spyro could be conected with dragons and different worlds, also elves, dwarves and fairies are a common ocurence in games and such and have their roots in celtic. Not to mention for example the Halo games actualy has references to Christianity and other myths/religions.

Don't forget that elves and dwarves have their roots in Norse mythologies as well not just celtic.

I didn't realy know that, I mostly just know that in celtic myth there are suposed to be places that lead you to other worlds that can be the kingdoms of such creatures.

Most elves/dwarves/orcs/trolls/etc that you see in modern games are related to Tolkien works, not the original concepts...

I'm glad they changed that fire temple music. That was creepy it probably would have scared me as a kid.

Little Big Planet recently had to take out the lyrics to a song because it had parts of the qur'an in it.

Yep Sony took a song out of Little Big Planet because it had parts of the qur'an in it but they did it of their own accord unlike what happened in Ocarina of Time.

Anyways I liked the original fire temple music, so what if it pissed people off the music was better before Nintendo was forced to butcher it.

Shivers was based quite a bit on African mythology...don't remember if the sequel was, I think that was based on more Native American stuff, but I can't quite remember.

Like someone else said, Prey has a lot of Native American stuff in it.

I know there's some other game that has a lot of African stuff, but I can't remember what it was...maybe I'll remember later...
