Played the demo on the PC. Seems pretty good (horror doesn't appear to have totally jumped the shark like I was afraid of). Didn't like the mech sequence, but as a whole it felt like FEAR, which isn't a bad thing.

Played the demo, I don't think I'll buy it but meh, I might consider it. They really screwed people with 4:3 display ratios over though.

Must resist urge to write three page review :)

There is a lot of content, and the game doesn't often rush you. So you can admire the beautiful (horrifying?) scenes and mostly move at your own pace.

The game is extremely well coded, and aside from some loading hitches it should run well on any system.

I can't be too glowing about it though, as its not very original. Half-Life did the 'soldiers/aliens coming to get you', and Max Payne did the slow-motion stuff... the horror stuff becomes desensitizing after a while.

So yeah, on the plus side, it does induce fear in the player. So if thats what you want, its pretty good.

Edit : PC version.

I'll get it at some point. It's rare for there to be so many good games coming out this early in the year:

FEAR 2
Street Fighter 4
Killzone 2
Halo Wars

Halo Wars sucks.

Its my understanding that after FEAR, the company split and one side got the rights to the name, and the other side got the rights to the game. Does anyone know what the other sequel is called? I'd be more interested in playing that. I saw an article about it in Game Informer awhile ago but then forgot about it. Also, does anyone know of FEAR 2 is actually difficult? The first one was too easy in my opinion(even in the hardest difficulty). I like to be challenged.

your thinking of Project Origin, well the people who made project origin somehow got the rights to call it Fear 2: Project Origin, there is no other game.

The article I read in Game Informer definitely discussed two seperate games in length that were both sequels to FEAR. Did one get disbanded before it was finished? And as far as the difficulty goes... I don't think it was the AI that was the problem... I thought the AI was actually pretty good. The ability to slow down time was a little cheap though...(I know it wasn't actually slowing down time, but that was basically the effect it had)

Link plz? As far as I can tell the split has blown over. Since Project Origin was developed using the rights to the game, and now has the rights to the name, I can't see what any other independently developed sequel could have.

Sorry... I don't know of anywhere online that has issues of Game Informer publicly viewable/downloadable.
EDIT:
Ok, from what I've been able to gather... Sierra owned FEAR but Monolith made the game. So when they split up Monolith went on to develop Project Origins which was originally an unofficial sequel. And Sierra was going to develop FEAR 2. However, Sierra's parent company(Vivendi Universal Games) merged with Activision and then Sierra's lineup was examined and FEAR 2(along with other games) were canceled. Then Monolith grabbed the name back.

Well, I just "won" this game... if you can call it "winning"... and I'm left with a sense of nausea... :eew: (though that may have been intentional on the part of the dev's.)

But aside from the disappointing (and rather insulting) ending, I thought it was a pretty good game.

yeah, I just finished FEAR the other day. eh...

You'd think that a game called FEAR would evoke more...I dunno, fear in the player.

Seriously, I really wish they'd come out with a truly frightening game. I haven't been scared of a game since Zero Tolerance back in the early nineties.

I dunno 'bout FEAR 2, but frankly the original FEAR is the only game or movie that ever spooked me good, in part because the first person perspective lends itself very well to horror IMO.
