alright, just picked up the assault on black reach kit, and on my way to getting my army started.
Anyone out there who plays the game? If so, anyone have any advice on painting and putting together models and the like?

The models should have instructions on how to put them together. I think the Games workshop site has a couple of painting guides and how to get started with that stuff.

A lot of it depends on what kind of army you want, and whether you want to have a really nice looking army or one that looks good to play with and doesn't take a day per model. Number one tip if you want to paint quickly is to use a black undercoat, you may need to give extra coats of certain colours to get them to come out, but it still ends up way faster and looking way better. Try out getting inks as well, they may be intimidating, but they're either a great way to get models looking good quickly, or an important step in making them look great. If you're painting quickly, particularly organic troops like Orks and Tyranids get yourself a drybrush.

I got the nuns with guns (witch hunters)

All i can suggest is to really read the rule book and read up on their stats. Once read it is easy to understand.

As in painting etc you can paint them how you like just as long as it at least follows close to one of the units demonstrated in the books.

I hope to be working in games workshop soon :D

if there's a couple of tips i can give is, wash metal models before painting some weird residue from the factory can get on them, and it resists the paint, two always use an undercoat black or white depending on how light the colours are or how you want them to be, also be sure that your local shop doesnt shut down because it happened to me and i have a army i spent alot of money on that i can't play games with
