Note: if you're a big fan of the PC games you might not like this much. It's more of a turn based game like Advance Wars than an RTS.

I'm not a big strategy fan outside of Advance Wars, and PC strategy games I really really suck at, but after hearing great things about Age of Empires for DS I'm considering getting this game. Why? It just looks fun. Loads of units, options, missions, depth (though not quite as complex), multiplayer (please let there be hotseat!!).....it's all good stuff.

I'm hoping for online play in the next version though. I'm sick of most DS games being local wireless only. :x

My Aspie 10 y/o son loves Age of Empire and all the other versions of this game. He is a little more than obsessed with wartime history. While learning as much as he can about history doesn't bother me, his obsession with the "war" topic does, but that's probably because I'm his mother, and I'm a girl, and girls generally are not interested in this sort of thing.

This game has taught him that there is more to war than just fighting in order to win. You have to have resources and you have to train and gain improvements through various options. It's not a fast-paced game and it is a bit tedious, but my son loves it because he is able to control this world and make it the way he wants it. It is also not a blood and gore type of game which I like because I think he is too young for that sort of stuff.

Has he played the DS version yet? I'm not sure if it's out in stores at this moment.....

I'm primarily a console gamer and don't have the money for upgrades to my PC, but it should be able to handle at least AoE1. So I'll give it a shot if I find it. Chances are I'll be bad at it the first time. I'm the one particular aspie who cannot handle RTS controls. I'm more into simple stuff like Final Fantasy Tactics.

And one more thing: considering the high debate of M-rated games yes, it is a good idea for kids to stay away from them. I've got my copy of Resident Evil 4 on reserve at Wal Mart and they had to make sure I was over 18. I'm 21.

No. He doesn't have a ds version of the game, just PC. AOE III is pretty cool...it's a bit different from the others, and the graphics are much better. However, it only works on my computer because my son's computer hasn't been upgraded in a while.

I wish they'd bring out some real RTS games for the DS instead of all these turn-based ones... the DS has more potential for RTS and FPS games then any other console, and yet developers are just being lazy...

Port Warcraft 2 to DS!

Port Starcraft to DS!

Starcraft DS + Battle.net= *drools*

Since AoE isn't RTS, I'm just sticking to Advance Wars DS.
