When you ask for meat, the servant may give you meat and you will surely be served potatoes. But if you ask for potatoes, you cannot be sure he will serve you meat.

I wouldn't ask for potatoes. I'd ask for the meat. :)

Exactly. There is nothing wrong in crying for freedom and then leaving out the debate about responsibility, as this will come automatically, however conservatives like to make you responsible for many things, without giving you freedom.

That is why I hate conservatives.

Conservatives see freedom as candy: Only neccessary to make the people shut up.

To a conservative, responsibility is more important than freedom.

Lots of opinions there, but what facts are they based on?

Conservatism in a nutshell is "don't question the status quo, bend over and let the elites keep on f*cking you."

*In Ben Stein's voice*

Wow, more opinionated statements. Does anyone have any foundations? Anyone? Anyone?

Well, I would say that the statements made aren't entirely wrong. Conservatism does tend towards the support of traditional values, this may mean supporting traditional values over liberty, or over the well-being of certain groups, and it often is interpreted as such. This is not to state I disagree with conservatism, but just the name conservative implies a support of tradition over other values. This does not mean that everyone who votes for the right believes this, as the right isn't necessarily conservative and is capable of somewhat dynamic actions, nor does it mean that the traditions don't have underpinnings to them.

Honestly though iamnotaparakeet, what refutation do you have to their opinionated statements?

Opinions I cannot refute, neither theirs nor anyone else's, but give me the reasons why they have those opinions and I have something to work with, whether accepting or rejecting, based on the soundness of their arguments and not on the strength of their emotions.

They certainly made statements on the goals and aims of conservatism, which means even though we both called these things opinions there is a factual or unfactual element to them.

And I'd like them to back them up. It's difficult to argue at the conclusion level if you don't know how they arrived there, much like the butting of heads as deer and rams do...

Well apparently telling the truth is "boring". People would obviously much rather have some reality tv-esque bash and make a team sport out of it.

Nah. Political debate is boring. The goal of any politician is to be as phony and emotionally manipulative as possible. It's all about soundbites and loaded clichés. It aint about backing stuff up with facts. Facts are dull and unmoving compared to conveniently contrived fiction. That's the sad truth of the matter.
