Why are Scientologists advertising their anti-psych here?

Having a positive opinion on psychiatry and studying biopsych, I dont understand why, of all sites, the CCHR is spamming their anti-psych BS on this site. I am not saying psychiatry helped us all, but it has helped some of us, and dont the Scientologists deny autism exists, so why are they advertising on a pro-autism site...?

If you are referring to the ads on the side/top of this page then those are chosen purely by an content engine. When the page comes up, google ads (the company which chooses ads) does a search of the web page's content, and also looks at your cookies (which shows what type of things you browse on the internet) and chooses a related add.

For example, right now on my left side is an advertisement for Eve Online (a computer game). This add was chosen for me because google has reviewed my browsing history and found that I visit online game web pages. So it is trying to give me an advertisement for something I might be interested in. And in reality it works because I am far more interested in Eve Online, and am more likely to purchase them game then say something like Italian hand bags.

Also, google ads browses the content of the page and picks an ad with related information. For example, you might see an ad about autism 'treatments' because the content engine has determined that it is a major theme on the web page, and has chosen related advertisements.

So, if you are seeing ads about psychiatry, it is probably because google ads has determined that you are interested in psychiatry from looking at your browsing history, or perhaps because psychiatry is being talked about on the forums.

If the ads are a distraction try using a browser which has an ad-blocking add on or see if there's some kind of ad blocking program which works with the browser you are using.

I get ads from Autism Speaks on WP, and that just breaks my heart.

I know, I'd much rather they ran WP on donations rather than ads. It really kind of betrays the point of the site to have autism speaks advertising here.

"They" is Alex. Alex has his "support WrongPlanet Awareness" on every page. People can click on that and donate. It doesn't happen very often, though. Hence, the ads.

I've donated twice, but neglected to get my WrongPlanet supporter label. I donated not to make my deed known but rather to help pay for the cost of running this site. I also disable advertisements with Adblock-pro. I try to donate to site that I use regularly so that their resources and information will be available to me in the future.

Back to the topic at hand. I'm not a Scientologist. In fact, if anything, I'm more anti-Scientologist if anything, but I agree somewhat with the mission of C.C.H.R. I was under the "care" of the psychiatric professions for many years, and it has done little to help me. In fact, I would say that it has done me more harm than good. I know the psychiatric professions have helped some people, but I'm not one of them.

As far as Autism Speaks is concerned, I'm no big fan of that organization, but if it weren't for the fact that one of their members directed me here, I probably would not have found this place. I've searched for years for a place like this, but most of the search engine results are for parents, teachers and other professionals.

Scientology is a mind control cult that wants to attract more members, regardless of whether the people they attract are the kind of people they want.

They will, and do, advertise that Scientology can cure ALL ills - even ills that have no treatment or cure.

Generally speaking, all cults want to attract people who can be manipulated and this often includes people who have poor social skills and feel like they want a more active social life. It also includes people who feel "different" from the mainstream, such as a group who describe themselves as being on the "Wrong Planet".

The real reason that Scientology hates psychiatry & psychology is that those professions attempt to help people to think for themselves and become "self-realized" which is exactly the opposite of what a cult wants. Also, for the last 3 or 4 decades, psychologists have been involved in helping to "deprogram" former cult members and any cult would hate that.

Trust me on this; been there done that. In fact, the so-called "Church" of Scientology claims they have some legal document that bars me from talking about Scientology and I would love to see them try to make that stand up in court. L.Ron Hubbard is a fake, a liar and a criminal who has faked his own death several times and cannot enter the U.S. because he would be arrested. On the other hand, Dick Cheney is still walking around free, so maybe Ron has nothing to fear.

That definitely explains their motivation.

That is a basic truth, but Scientology's hatred of psychiatrists runs deeper than that. Scientology believes that psychiatry is the main cause of the holocaust, a tool of the Nazis. They even have an exhibition called "Psychiatry; An Industry of Death" where all this crap is peddled. L. Ron Hubbard himself requested psychiatric help back in the day, but did not receive it, so you can pretty much piece together why he would instruct his mindless drones to undermine it. That was in the course of 50 years. We go back 75 million years now, to the time where Earth was known as Teegeeack. The galactic overlord Xenu, the ruler of the Galactic Confederation, wanted to solve the galaxy's over-population problem, so with the help of psychiatrists, he rounded up billions of beings for income tax inspection(Which Hubbard, incidentally, has also rambled and ranted about.) They were then paralyzed with a mixture of alcohol and glycol, which traps a being's Thetan(Scientology lingo for soul) so it could not leave the body and come back as another life-form. So, the souls were trapped inside the frozen bodies, which were then dumped into the volcanoes of Hawai'i.

By having their ads on this site, WrongPlanet is actively endorsing and funding a dangerous mind-control cult that ruins people financially and mentally, members and critics alike.

On the user-side, all of this goes away if you download the Firefox browser, and install the Adblock Plus extension, which will... you guessed it - Block advertising on websites. If the administrators had any sense of decency, they would find a solution that involved no Scientology ads. That they don't control the ads is irrelevant - There is always an alternative to financing mafia organisations, though they might not be as profitable.

Yeah, virtually every science in the world has been associated with the NAZIs by someone who didn't like it.

Thank you very much for your answers and opinions. Even though I Understand that psychiatry cant help everyone, and there are psychiatrists that really arent that great at their jobs, I am still somewhat pro-psychiatry as it has also helped many, many people including myself. It has harmed some people, I wont deny that either, but the pros far outweigh the cons in my opinion. Interesting reasons you people gave for the hatred of psychiatry on the part of many cults, it really does make sense. And also thank you for informing me of various ad-blocker programs as I want to tune out all of this anti-psychiatry BS, because in my opinion, as I have stated in the past on some of my other entries, I believe that only medical professionals and/or people who suffer of mental illness and their families should have opinions on psychiatry, as they understand it more throughout their training, or treatment(in the case of those who suffer of mental illness). I dont think Scientologists should have the right to post their oponions on psychiatry as they have no actual knowledge about it, and only look at its cons, even making up cons. And cons come With all medical professions. Nevertheless thank you all very much for posting your comments and tips so far, they are much appreciated.

I'm neither in a psychiatric profession nor do I have any mental illness as far as I know. I am, however, autistic. Autism is a neurological condition that is in many cases mistaken as a mental disorder. This may be why I have such a low opinion of the psychiatric profession. It is not my fault nor the professionals. I was inappropriately referred to members of this profession, and all they did was try to help, correct, or cure me. Sending a non mentally ill autistic person to a psychiatrists is like having an eye doctor treat a kidney failure patient.

At the age of almost 84 I have long ago learned to automatically assume all ads are mere money taking bait and for all practical purposes they no longer register on my consciousness. I don't need mechanical aids to block ads, I am immune to advertising.
