The only real issue I would find here is that the dog got run over by the car. I really doubt it would be possible to get a healthy food out of the mess created by a squashed dog,

Where, apart from the Chinese and the Koreans?

A lot of people eat dogs, specially in big cities. Whether they know it or not is a different question... Let's just say that there are cheap alternatives to pork when making sausages.

Addendum: Depending on the city you live in, you will be lucky that the cheap alternative was dog and not carton or decomposed meat.

I didn't think about that. I should have said shot by a stray bullet form a gang war.

Uncivilized but not actually morally wrong because the animal is already dead. It's just bizarre and kind of creepy.

Unless you need to do it to survive, I would say it's evident of sociopathic behaviour since a normal person would be greatly disturbed by the idea of eating a being that they loved. It's almost like cannibalism.

The definition of civilized seems to change with culture.

Sociopathic means the absence of empathy which does not describe eating a dead domesticated animal.
I would consider it no worse than eating a pig that was killed in a slaughter house.

Well it wouldn't necessarily mean you were sociopathic, but I think if it didn't disturb you to eat a beloved pet, it would at least suggest a lack of empathy. It wouldn't automatically make it so, of course.

It would suggest a lack of empathy to torture an animal.

Eating an animal that is dead suggests you are hungry.

Most people in the civilized world consider their dogs to be family.
That being the case, for them to eat a dog would be akin to cannibalism.
This is a stupid thread.

I am not suggesting to eat your dead pets. It was more of a philosophical thread to make you think.
It was also a bit funny.

Eating a dead animal would not be cannibalism. It's not like eating a dead human.
I love my pets and would probably not eat them unless I was dying of starvation.
Then everything would change.

How odd! Must look that up!

Edit: Production of food from dog meat is illegal in Switzerland.

I didn't believe it either when I read Fnord's post, but it turned out to be true 8O Apparently, cat and dog meat is not allowed to be sold in Switzerland, but there is no law against slaughtering cats and dogs for meat and many Swiss people see them as a delicacy. Odd indeed.

Why is it odd? It's just another meat.

The only meat I can see as odd would be human meat.

...which is how the Italian cannibal films came to be so popular.
