This is Gerard Batten MEP on the case of Imran Firasat:

Quote:
Thank you, Mr. President.

Now, Mr. Imran Firasat is a Pakistani who converted from Islam to Christianity. Spain granted him asylum in 2004 because, as an apostate, his life was at risk. The Spanish authorities are now threatening to deport him to Pakistan under hate speech laws mandated by the European Commission. Mr. Firasat produced a film called The Innocent Prophet as part of his critique of Islam. An altered version of the film was released last December without Mr. Firasat's consent. This appears to be the extent of his transgression.

If Mr. Firasat is deported he may face the death penalty for alleged blasphemy. Now individuals and organisations across Europe and the world are calling on Spanish authorities not to take any action until Mr. Firasat's lawyers have lodged his appeal with the Spanish High Court. It would be a betrayal of all Western, liberal and democratic values if Mr. Firasat was sent to his death for criticising a belief system.

I would post the full, uncut version of the video that seems to be his 'crime' but it will inevitably get removed, as it's not suitable for children. Go find it on YouTube.

I really hope the U.S. or Canada grants him and his family refugee status if this is considered since the Spanish government has revoked his rights to reside in Spain as a refugee. Unless the Spanish High Court decides that he should keep his right to live in Spain, he risks being deported to his country of citizenship, Pakistan.

Based on the information I have gathered, his wife and children live in Indonesia and before he was prosecuted for "hate speech", he was advocating to the Spanish and Indonesian governments for his family to also obtain refugee status. However, his attempts were unsuccessful so he has been separated from them since he was granted asylum in Spain. Does anyone know why?

It is truly odious that the EU would support his deportation to a dictatorship just because he voiced his justified objections to radicalized islam. This is yet another reason why the EU does not deserve any peace prize.
