If you're talking about speaking style Obama (nicknamed "the Reagan of the Left") is considered by Americans to be a great speechmaker. He and Ronald Reagan are put in the same class by both supporters and detractors as great speakers. Ask an American what they think of Ronald Reagan and they will either say "he was an inspiring speaker", or that he was "a pied piper leading the voters astray" depending upon which party the American you ask belongs to. Ask the same question about Obama and you will one or other of the same two responses depending upon which party the American belongs to (but with the parties reversed).

Neither hit a home run with every speech. Dont know what he said at Brussels, nor how it got translated into Polish.

I was a Gary Johnson supporter in 2012. Nader in 2008.

Michigan pushed Gary off the ballot, but he was still elligable for Write-Ins so I gave him my vote. Without that option, I would have likely tossed my vote to Rocky Anderson. I also voted Nader in 2000.

I'm not impressed with Obama and I'm concerned about his use of Drones to kill people. Yes of course, McCain in comparison is completely batshit crazy. Even now, I think McCain wants us running into the Ukraine. Romney was just completely mediocre and vague to me.

I'll also admit that I find the Affordable Care Act to be a weird concept for improving health coverage. It would make more sense to begin a small scale Socialist program similar to Canada. Don't try to cover major things with the government right away. Try to grow the system with Government Clinics who can fix minor injuries like broken bones or make sure people can get needed drugs to prevention minor chronic conditions or pain from becoming worse and a more expensive problem in the future. Even Gary's VP Judge Jim Gray supported a safety net like this.

Well..he IS the only president..with enough 'balls' to get some type of health care reform actually enacted through the hand of his cohorts....

Without THIS..a great deal of human suffering.. would not have been averted...

It's the first REAL EFFECT OF ACTUALLY helping the common man in this country...since FDR...

Politics is the hardest game ever...

Getting anything of REAL IMPORTANCE..done..other than scratching the back of corporations..IS NEXT to impossible..

IN effect what did pass as health care reform..particularly through the effort of the Obama cohort Pelosi..is almost to the level of virtual miracle..compared to what the country spent their time doing during the Bush administrations...COMPLETE USELESS FODDER IN WASTE OF TAX PAYER MONEY..GOOD FOR NO ONE..BUT THE ELITE POCKETS..FAVORING CONTRACTS TO REBUILD A COUNTRY TORN DOWN..FOR NO REASON BUT TO REBUILD IT..DISGUSTING AS IT IS....

And free LOAN OF UNPAID TAX BREAKS..TO THE MIDDLE CLASS AS HUSH MONEY..FOR THE DESTRUCTION OF ANOTHER COUNTRY...

In comparison to that..Obama is the bestEST president ever...but of course there is more to compare to.. before the dark years of the Bush administration....

BUT THAT'S THE PAST..AND AT LEAST SOMETHING OF REAL SUBSTANCE IS GETTING DONE..even if it's just protecting the health of those folks with less advantage..in life..that the SO CALLED 'big wigs' DO NOT REALLY CARE ABOUT...

I voted for Obama twice, and am satisfied with his Presidency, but far from happy. I think he is competent, and am comfortable believing that his policies are the result of critical examination and pragmatism. He is an intellectual, and it is a shame the opposition party seems to have abandoned that trait. Regardless of your politics, you have to admit getting any kind of healthcare bill passed is good politicking. Let's not forget that he also ended a war, even though Afghanistan proves to be difficult for all sides.

His greatest downfall, in my view, is an adherence to a moderate policy agenda, still trying to work with an obstructionist opposition. I think he should use the bully pulpit a bit more, and push the United States in a much more progressive direction so as to catch up with the rest of the developed world. If he isn't going to win the Republicans over either way, he might as well harden the base and cull moderates and blue dogs. Racial, cultural and socioeconomic trends suggest that the Democrats will be more dominant in the next 30 years, and it would set a good position for the party, rather than being chained to the center like Dems have been since Carter.

An argument could be made for Buchanan, as he sat and did nothing while the Southern states seceded. ArrantPariah is a known troll. To be fair to him, Dubya is widely regarded as the worst president since Harding, which is about as far as living memory reasonably extends. 38/43 is pretty bad in any case - much worse than Obama's high-end-of-average ranking (though it is possible he'll be viewed worse in 5 years).

Troll or not, historical rankings place W at least in the bottom quartile since 2008. Certainly the worst since Harding. C-Span 2009 has him as the worst since Filmore. Siena 2010 ranks him as the worst since Pierce.

No. I think he's a lesson we have to learn. We didn't exactly get a Nero by voting on everything aside from qualification but we did get 3/4 of a Jimmy Carter.

He's also a lesson for the RNC - there's more at stake than social conservative issues. Either get it together or enjoy 8 years of Hillary Clinton - you'll deserve it if you don't!

While Obama is far from perfect, I think he's still a decent President, especially since he's stopped caving into the Republicans for the sake of bipartisanship. While I wish he could have instituted single payer universal healthcare in this country, the Affordable Care Act is still a reasonable start. While his foreign policy isn't perfect, it's a damn sight better than Bush's "shoot from the hip" policy. And we can honestly say now, we have a very intelligent, very well educated man sitting in the White House, free from the anti-intellectualism (as we all know intellectuals are elitists!) that was associated with his predecessor. I wish he had not been so gun ho for embracing the Bush/Cheney violations of constitutional rights, and that will always be a stain on his administration. While Obama will probably never be ranked as high as Lincoln or FDR, and his single most important accomplishment that will be remembered is that he was the first black man to be elected to the Presidency, he still ranks as a good commander-in-chief.
