Asperger's Syndrome and The Third Eye
In a college classroom yes, in real life no, it's merely lack of evidence. All our scientific knowledge at some point had a lack of evidence because we didn't have the tools to find the evidence, it doesn't mean that science was "wrong" until the last 100 years or so, just that we didn't have the evidence to support it at the time. For 2,500 years Democritus was considered crazy and wrong for proposing the world was made of small divisible particles he called atoms with no evidence to support it. Yet here we are in the 21st century and we didn't just find the evidence we called them exactly what he did. Was he wrong? No, he merely didn't have sufficient evidence to support his theory at the time. Lack of evidence is merely that, lack of evidence-- it doesn't mean something is wrong, merely that there is no evidence supporting it, evidence could always arise in the future as in Democritus' case. That's why I say, I can't believe in it without evidence, but I can't deny it either-- it is in essence gray area. The goal of the scientific method is to validate through evidence, it makes no claims about invalidity due to lack of evidence-- humans do that.
You can say, well, newagers and such don't have a good theory or a theory at all, they're just throwing s**t at the wall and seeing what sticks socially. This may be true, may not (I don't know their internal thoughts and thus intentions) but even that is irrelevant since it's possible to just stumble into truth as well.

Sorry but I do not see how the concepts that you are an astrologer and that you do not allow yourself to be led by fancy are not somewhat opposed.

Oh, I don't know about that.
Equating the Third Eye with self hypnosis is worthy of consideration, as is the last post AspE wrote.
The fact that one can perceive may be the hole (sic) point. However, what is perceived is like all else The Mind "sees"...it is completely subject.
That there is a "Third Eye" may not be the item to dispute. The truth is filtered through a mind and thus what is seen may not be what is. That we all "see" something different is almost always without dispute.

AspE does not believe his own cognitive faculties are reliable... therefore why should we trust anything his mind produces...? Furthermore, his skepticism and empiricism leads to his standards of knowledge being so strict that he is effectively scientistic. His metaphysical naturalism automatically precludes any hypothesis that invokes the "super natural." He has also demonstrated himself to be a snobbish individual who thinks he is intellectually superior to those who have inclinations toward pursuit of a knowledge of/relationship with God. Furthermore, AspE has essentially been trolling myself and others. He thinks it is acceptable for him to tear down others arguments with shallow, petty, unsubstantiated blanket statements. Because the nature of Atheism is the assertion that there is no God, the burden of proof is on him as well to demonstrate why God or the supernatural do not exist. Thus far he has not given any positive argument to demonstrate that claim. He has merely used the "Socratic method" to ask provocative questions which he then "refutes" with further assertions that we are "wrong" without giving substantial outside sources to bolster his assertions. In other words trolling. AspE has only strengthened my conviction that far too many atheists are extremely misguided and uneducated when it comes to fundamental concepts in history, philosophy, theology, and the philosophy of science.... and that they really just like to antagonize people... they like to think of themselves as the "Brights." That should tell you all you need to know about their attitude.

And so, as the flower is a flowering of the field, I feel myself as a personing- a manning- a peopling of the whole universe. –In other words, I, like everything else in the universe, seem to be a center… a sort of vortex, at which the whole energy of the universe realizes itself- comes alive… an aperture through which the whole universe is conscious of itself. Well, I like everyone's participation so far, most especially your own as you did get the ball rolling. There has been interesting speculation, interjection, definition and discussion throughout the thread.
As for me, I'd prefer to resign myself to "The Beautiful Ones" - those mice that decide to stay out the fray and not get caught in the death spiral of which there appears no solution.
There is no exactitude in humanity's spiritual pursuits and as of yet, thus no agreement on which to build peace. Agreeing to disagree is the only choice apparently.

I like the metaphor of connecting the dots. The full body of knowledge (all types) is diffused among the people of the world and epigentically stored in our libraries of recorded information. The entirety of human history (and biology) has been the evolution of language. I love Terence Mckenna's concept of a second singularity at the end of time. Time being a dimension that conserves novelty... novelty is always increasing as density of connectedness increases the fractal resonance wave approaches maximal novelty or maximal connectedness---dialectic synthesis--->concrescence (Whitehead) ). It is only when we are able to connect all of the dots (drawing from all cultures and world views) that we will see God's communication. From my understanding of mystical experience this type of meta-assimilation of knowledge is what it means to become the Godhead... or to become a Tathagata.

I went back to re-read the conversation on God, and I think i may have put words in AspE's mouth. I recant my claim that he does not believe his cognitive faculties to be reliable... I think that was someone else. I apologize for that. Is that irony?! hahaha... I will say that given materialism and naturalism (the ontology in which there is no God or anything like God) and evolution (defined as natural selection operating on (random) genetic variation over time), it can be argued that the probability that one's cognitive faculties would be reliable is low. And I read some other quotes from AspE regarding gnosticism and zen buddhism that make me think he has a deeper understanding of theology than I give him credit for. I just wish he would have brought that to the table in these threads. For the record I think AspE is clearly a very intelligent person. I just find that our definitions are so incongruent most of the time that its hard to communicate. And it doesn't help that according to my own personal, esoteric theology if one really knows the secret then there is nothing left to say. In fact its taboo to even utter it. It is a secret for a reason.... that is why zen masters "do not have anything to teach." It is something that must be realized in a sort of noetic lightning of intuition. Once you achieve that state of awareness you just Go So perhaps he already understands that ![]()

Yes, I apologize for that remark... it was late, and I was letting my emotions get to me.

Here's a thing I have with The Enlightened...they need to use their third ears, not just their third eyes.
Some are robots. Not animals. Just robots.
If the enlightened hear, then they need to make sure to listen.
Dear enlightened ones...Do not abuse the unenlightened.
A nice thing about being a robot is having the focus to be able to drive a point home. Kind of like a hammer. If one that is enlightened runs into a robot that knows better, they might want to treat them with respect. Otherwise they might find themselves no more than an enlightened nail.
Childhood's End is coming to a planet near you. Don't be surprised if the show is Apocalyptic!

I think 'Enlightenment' is a horrible word in that too many people get all hung up on it - whether it becomes a word that replaces rational thought or a word that they tend to think of in reference to people who've abdicated rational thought.
If we want to take the evolutionary experiment further within ourselves we try to pry our I experience open wider, with farther reach, with greater competency. If I were to show my western bias here there's nothing mundane or profane. Whether you're on a retreat and meditating hours on end, whether you're a controller for a global company, on the clock, and have four hours of meetings to get through today as well as making sure that A/P and A/R got month end wrapped up correctly without any significant variances or oversights - you're part of the same project. In one case you're perhaps expanding the X axis of your consciousness, in another it's your Y axis, and yet another, perhaps family life and it's complexities, you're handling you're Z axis. However the variables of life might best be framed all the efforts, whether culturally seen as spiritual or culturally seen as mundane, are pieces of the same expansion. If all of it wasn't so important we wouldn't be in such a codependent situation where such a wide variety of personality types are needed to make the world go round.
If you're at a shrine in your room meditating - you're on the path. If you're downtown in the evening cheering your local baseball team - you're on the path. If you're nursing a newborn baby - you're on the path. If you're out at the downtown club district trying to look superhumanly fashionable to pick up a significant other - you're on the path. This is simply the universe doing and while we have the habit of looking at certain things as profound and certain things as kitsch it's really all part of the same thing and all of it is dignified.

That was thoughtful. I like it.
The term enlightened is appropriate considering its relationship to certain histories of abuse. There are those that allow their raised consciousness to go to their heads. Such people have been dangerous throughout history.
It's a problem with history. History may just be about to end.
