I was ok with this line of discussion, when Ben Franklin protested the Tax Stamp Act, and Gandhi went on a Salt March.

Most, now, are crony capitalists, with no intention, "to dissolve the political bonds which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth."

They mainly want to leverage the resources of others, no?

Yep.

They want to accumulate wealth, and they are willing to corrupt the government to achieve this end.

In other words, rational self-interest.

Punishing them is in our self-interest.

I think, most people see themselves as authoritarians.

Well ... most people follow their own self-interest. That's just a fact.

There's nothing wrong with egoism. It's just the way things are.

Of course, most people don't know where their self-interest lies due to corporate propaganda and false consciousness.

This is why we see poor people supporting capitalism and war. They've been brainwashed into believing that socialism is inherently authoritarian, that America is classless, that anyone can become a billionaire just by working hard, and that the US military is run by people who have the best interests of the citizenry in mind.

Maybe the NRA should be more focused on promoting gun safety and responsible gun ownership instead of posting paranoia filled stuff about how we're on the brink of civil war...maybe would be a bit more responsible of them.

The NRA cares more about gun manufacturers than gun owners.

YES

A++++++++++++++++

Rule 1 of Political Analysis: Always follow the money. That's how you analyse politics like a pro.

What if the NRA focused on gun safety? People would think "Guns are dangerous!" Less people would buy guns. The NRA would lose its corporate funding. The weapon manufacturing industry would search for a new propaganda outlet.

When the NRA releases alarmist propaganda, people buy more guns. Then, the NRA receives money from gun makers as a thanks.

The NRA is just chasing self-interest. The vast majority of people and organizations follow self-interest whether they admit it or not.

By drumming up alarmist propaganda, they get another gift from the gun makers.

I agree. They have kind of backed themselves into a corner this way. They've identified very strongly with a precarious position.

There sponsers would profit from a second civil war but they profit even more from a civil war that's always coming real soon but never comes.

Saying the government wants to take your guns away creates an artificial scarcity like what De Beers does to sell diamonds.

It's almost like something from one of those popup ads "dermatologists want new miracle skin treatment banned".

They want to make their customers feel like they're rebelling against the man when really they're obeying the man at Smith & Wesson.

Yep.

Divide and conquer.

Be afraid of everyone except the lobbyists.

It's no wonder we live in turbulent times when we're surrounded by fear mongerers.

I'm glad that we are living in turbulent times. This means that the lower classes are waking up and the upper classes are frantically trying to suppress or corrupt this awakening.

Bernie lost the primaries ... but he was a sign. In any previous election, he would not have gotten anywhere.

The future looks bright. Don't stop believing. Don't stop dropping truth bombs.

Yep.

Of course, we need to remember that Americans are not a separate species from the rest of humanity.

They have been twisted and psychologically mangled by a highly effective system of corporate propaganda ... but they can break free.

Look at how much support Sanders got. Eventually, one of these days, America will do the right thing.

This is a definite sign of neo-fascism.

Fascinating. I don't agree with absolutely everything the Professor said, particularly about how desire for an Apartheid state had driven the War for American Independence, but otherwise I think he was spot on.

I don't get how ANYBODY could deduce that the desire for an Apartheid state was at the crux of the creation of the United States.

It's true that "Apartheid" existed (see slavery and Jim Crow laws)---but the Founding Fathers, by and large, agreed as to the inherent evil of slavery (while perhaps being racist in other senses).

The main inspiration behind the creation of the United States was the desire to escape the tyranny of Great Britain.
