Those are pretty much my views too. For a while I thought I was an extreme liberal because I hated pretty much everything Bush was doing (most notably the war and the whole gay marriage thing, not to mention his apparent lack of intelligence while talking). But after really finding out the viewpoints of each side, I've discovered that while I am still more liberal overall, I am conservative when it comes to things like gun rights. Overall, I guess you could say I'm moderate.

What you two are really saying, though you perhaps don't know it, is that your views are Libertarian.
Libertarians believe, as their core principle, in limited government intrusion into our lives.
Conservatives don't believe that. They want to deny you the right to an abortion.
They want to eliminate gay rights. They want to require schools to teach Creationism.
They want to regulate sex on TV. (they want to regulate sex in real life, too) :)
They definitely DON'T favor limited government intrusion into our lives! :)

I'm pretty much a liberal extremist in some senses.

A while ago I was very much against illegal immigration, but after somebody got in my face, I'm for tearing down the border wall and replacing it with ticket booths giving free 5 year work passes, because they would pay taxes, and it would mean people would have to work harder if they wanted to keep their jobs, essentially eliminating laziness. I definately understand why people hire illegals, twice the work, half the pay, and not only that, they don't give you lip when you ask them to do something, however nice or mean.

Although I am pretty much a little bit communistic democratic when it comes to the economy. I think the government needs to create a few companies, everyone pays a 100 dollar tax to get shares in it, required, and they each have a share in the company, and nobody can own more than five shares. This way we could prevent the filthy rich from getting further into our pockets, yet being rich would still be possible. And yes, that is somewhat communistic, but a type of psuedo economy communism can succeed if it's democratic in my beliefs.

I'm more of a right-wing conservative than anything else, but I'd consider voting Democrat in the next election if they agree with the same moral values as I do and the Republicans don't. I'm anti-abortion, anti-gun control and dislike the whole lesbian/gay movement. But it's not like I'm going to step into other people's lives and tell them exactly what they can and cannot do. :)

Yeah, I can agree to a point with others on the gay marriage issue, in that it shouldn't be supported by the state. But I'm a little different in that I think marriage should not be supported by the state PERIOD, and it should be Domestic partnerships instead, so as not to violate the seperation of Church and State clause in the constitution. I do NOT want a Theocracy in America, I don't want religion to play ANY role in government, especially if it doesn't allow somebody to kill their child for backtalking them, and killing an adultor, yet allows gay marriage to be banned when the bible merely states Man shall not lie in bed with man, instead of man shall not marry man. And if you think about Sodom, it was killed because of the rape occuring, not the gay people.

The republican system seems OK, but I'm still waiting for a decent monarchy to come along. Monarchies always seem to start out pretty well, but they deteriorate. Hmmm...maybe inbreeding? :D

I hate politics in general. But I hate the Democrats less than I hate Republicans. So I guess I would be classified as Liberal.

I have never had to pay attention to politics since this last election. Soooo many health care cuts have been made since this last election and they are just feeding it back into big business.

People (including kids) are now going without insurance with these new cuts. Anyone who votes next election solely on "Abortion" or "Gay Marriage" is just as selfish as the people they vote into office.

More people need to know what's really going on in politics and not just vote on a single issue because people can suffer because of it.

But that's what most politicians count on.

I absolutely agree, Sophist.

Looking at the poll, most of the people here are Liberals, with a thin spread of other beliefs. No extremists yet, though in my opinion, Bush is pretty extreme!! !

actually, i have to say (meant to before, but hadn't got round to it), that i only voted in the second bit cos it had "green" in it. i'm actually whats called a red pepper - a green socialist. i would never describe myself as "liberal".

anyway - some green politics are DEFINITELY not liberal - they can't afford to be.

Generally, I am apolitical, but if I had to pigeonhold myself anywhere, I would say that I am a moderate liberal. If push came to shove, I would vote Democrat, though I despise both parties.

Yes, I agree with you Vivi, environmental concerns could be related to any wing, even the right, but most often they go hand in hand with left-wing idealogy, including both socialism and liberalism.

I call myself a moderate socialist. I am not authoritarian because I believe it is wrong to impose my views on others. I do not take liberalism to extremes though, there have to be strict rules on some things.

I'm quite a liberal person generally, but I do eat meat, I don't give money to people who ask for it out on the street and I don't give a toss about the environment.

A left leaning site.
No-wonder no one argues with me.
