This is nonsense, my ex's sister had to deal with this sort of misinformation and judgment. When you look into how affirmative action works in regards to school admissions you'll actually see it mostly benefits poor white women.

"misinformation"... That word has lost its meaning due to its overuse. Kind of like the word "terrorist".

What's a terrorist? It's someone the federal government doesn't like.

What's misinformation? It's speech the federal government doesn't like.

HEY! There seems to be a common thread here.

Misinformation still refers to false claims being passed off as information.

A poor white person can go anywhere in America and be welcome by the locals.

Not really.
If you look poor you are not welcome in sheik Beverly Hills shops.
Proposals for group homes, shelters, even senior citizen housing often result in protests.

I'm not talking about homeless people AS. Beverley hills shops represent 0.1% of the land area in the US, I think you know what I mean.

If you are a politician in many suburban areas and propose to open a shelter for battered women or drug users or a group home for autistics you are going to lose votes, often there will be protests and vandalism at the proposed site. They will not say it is about bigotry, they will say it is about property values or crime rates, or their kids being harassed. This stuff has been a constant item in local newspapers my entire life. These stories usually do not get into national media that are read overseas.

Yes our politicians use the same covert language here. It's called dog whistling. Every psychologist knows that's what Trump used to round up the conservative white vote.

I am beginning to understand that that republican politicians in the US have been blocking some Jim Crow laws such as the anti-lynching law which has been blocked 200 times since 1919.

CRT is the latest attempt to keep the US education system from developing a national curriculum (Apparently the US is the only OECD country with no national curriculum that allows states to dictate what children are taught in school). Some 29 US republican majority states are in the process of passing bills that will outlaw the teaching of CRT which is infact a red herring. What it it is intended to do is allow schools to remove teachers who teach the history of oppression against black people. This includes the consequences of Jim Crow.

The majority of schools and neighbourhoods in the US are white majority. One of the first consequences of Jim Crow is having segregated neighborhoods and schools. GOP Politicians have made sure, even in culturally diverse states like California and Florida that demographic settlement remain as they were from segregation days through various means again appealing to the conservative vote.

From that perspective its glaringly apparent to a black family driving through the US that there literally thousands of places where they drive that they are not welcome.

Green book V.35 or something would highlight red states as places not to visit.

Look at Japan. Is anyone shocked and horrified that Japan is largely Japanese?
Is anyone surprised by the fact that Kenya is run by black people?
No.
Blacks in America are roughly 14% of the population, so expecting the government and the culture to be Afro-Centric is unrealistic.
if what you are calling "NO-GO" zones are places with confederate flags then I guess you would call many inner city environments filled with BLM, and Black Panther paraphernalia NO-GO zones for white people?
CRT and your "NO-GO" zone theory are nothing but gas lighting. Created to pit one group of Americans against another.

Cool story. No, actually, I would not call "many inner city environments filled with BLM, and Black Panther paraphernalia NO-GO zones for white people". Having lived in city ghettos and country ghettos, historic ghettos and section 8 ghettos, I found that nobody hated me for being white (or hated me at all, for that matter). I also didn't do ignorant s**t like assume that BLM or black panthers meant "kill wh***y" just cos a glassy eyed spoiled brat like tucker carlson said they might be. I treated them like people. Because they are. I didn't act like I already knew everything about them. I listen to their histories and their reasons, their beliefs and desires. I have never felt threatened by being the only white person in the ghetto. But I have felt threatened by the white redneck that was threatening my black wife who didn't know I was her husband. I have felt threatened every time I've had some racist POS ask me if I was onna them "n***er lovers", and started flexing aggressively.

I think *you* have inadvertently proven *my* point.

I mean, there's only 15% of them. F**k em, right? Who cares, right?

Nice strawman, too - that the expectation is to make all of america entirely afro-centric, as opposed to the actual goal, to simply stop stigmatizing black culture so heavily.

Let's analyze that profound admission you've made, a little deeper. "Blacks in America are roughly 14% of the population, so expecting the government and the culture to be Afro-Centric is unrealistic." Only 19% of the population has a physical disability, yet we have entire federally run systems for them. 14% of the population is over 12 times bigger than the entire population of the state of oklahoma, yet oklahoma gets to run their state as they please, and expects the american government to give a rats-ass about them.

But as you said. "Blacks in America are roughly 14% of the population, so expecting the government and the culture to be Afro-Centric is unrealistic." Yeah, that would be silly.

You wanna talk about gaslighting? The oldest known term for people from africa, as recorded by europeans, is "Nigla". Meaning roughly "to complain", typically about minor things. The word lives today in the UK, whenever you hear a brit mention they have a few "niggles" about something, meaning a few minor complaints. Someone who tends to complain about small things is called a niggler. In case you happen to be "colorblind", and can't see where this is going, I'll continue to crayon it out for you. The very fact that black people were called "n***ers", and the fact that they're treated like whiners and complainers, is NOT a coincidence. The idea that they just are complainers is baked into the common knowledge.

The united states is vastly bigger than kenya or japan. Also, they don't have a big freaken statue in a harbor the size of a skyscraper that says "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore" or brag about how much of a "melting pot" they are. The way some americans act, you'd think the poem went "Send me your culture and foods, your hairstyles and clothes, your eccentricities from which I can profit, but ew, not the people." American who call themselves "americans" as though the united states is all there is, and who cares about the rest of north america, or the entirety of south america.

Part of the problem comes back to this:

Mr Reynholm wrote:

Simply put: "I don't care." Beneath all the gasping and sighing and moaning about how "unreasonable" it all is, at the root of it, the part they find unreasonable is being expected to do something, about something they don't care about - being inconvenienced by something they don't care about. "I don't care, stop inconveniencing me."

It has nothing to do with expecting "the government" to suddenly become "afro-centric". No more so than "feminism" means we have to paint the White House pink, or that gay rights means we have to change the national anthem to "we are family". It has to do with the assumptions that are made by society, about others. It's a thousand stupid little things, like acting like gay couples getting married is "special treatment", even though it's exactly like straight marriage, except for the gay part. Like the sheer number of jokes about how blacks are lazy and mexicans are rapey and gays are pedophiles and arabs all smell like camels and hash italians are greasy french are smelly, and white people, oh don't get me started, they think salt is spicy, and boy do they like mayonaise, and whats with them and tom jones... - and of you don't like those other jokes, them comedy is dead and you have no sense of humor, but if you dare to joke about how white people do love a good genocide so they can take all your stuff and pretend they invented it, or how superior they've been acting for a thousand years, calling every other culture "barbarians" or "monkeys", oh no, you've gone too far, that's just not funny there mister. Like if a poor looking white guy has a nice car society goes "wow, he worked hard to have something nice, good job!" but if a POC does the same they're being irresponsible with money and if they cant afford nice things they shouldn't get them. It's a thousand little things that you'd never notice if you're white, cos you're not black so they don't happen to you.

It's all the little things that are "unreasonable" when POC do it, but "A-OK" when white people do it. It's the fact that when POC say "racism exists" society says "prove it!", but when white people say "racism doesn't exist" society goes "well, that's good enough for me!" - it's all the little ways society forgives whiteness while automatically blaming others. All the little ways that "acting professional" or "acting proper" really just means "acting white". The fact that even today, medical textbooks still say dumb s**t about how different races feel pain differently. It's every time a white kid with weed gets let go with a warning "he just went astray a little", but a black kid gets no mercy cos "everyone knows he'll never amount to anything". It's every time someone says something stupid like "we all have the same opportunities" or we all live in the same world", remaining blissfully and possibly intentionally ignorant of the fact that, no, we don't.

The kid born into money, who can always get loans from the Bank of Daddy, who has other people to fix their meals, and do their laundry, who doesn't have to have a job so they can afford to spend all their free time chasing whatever dream they want, with intelligent parents that were allowed to attend school who helped little kiddo learn even faster has a very different life than a kid born to poverty, who has to work to help the family eat, who doesn't live in a good school district, who's parents never went to school cos they weren't allowed to (segregation), and don't have the resources to give their kid great gobs of money, or to send them off to college, and were denied the same leg-up that a lot of white americans were given.

In a land where people worship the second amendment and bastardize the first, hide behind the fifth and conveniently forget the sixteenth, who cherry-pick the laws that benefit them, and ignore the ones that don't - where people seem to think freedom means they can demand respect, but still expect others to earn theirs, where if you don't like it, YOU can leave, and if I don't like it, YOU can leave - a freedom that exists at the expense of others. The "freedom" to treat others like s**t, but still be treated like an honored guest - the freedom to make demands, but be free of them yourself. Freedom from responsibility.

The biggest joke of all is when white people try to compare experiences and claim they too have been marginalized by other groups in exactly the same way, becuase they too got pulled over unfairly, or experienced hostility from another race, as though that's totally exactly the same thing as "I legitimately might DIE over some stupid thing" - as if "they don't like me" is the same thing as "they want to kill me, and there's very little stopping them". "They might be unfriendly!" is not a no-go zone. "There's a good chance I might die", THAT is a no-go zone.

And full-circle, acting like black people are just complaining about little things, the fact that it's ok to dismiss their complaints and assume they're just being nigglers and whiners, and some folks are just trying to rile them up and cause no-good, is not only the same drumbeat being hammered away at today, but the same wardrums used in the slave days to dismiss anyone who dared question the arrangement.

The bigotry is built into the system. Not just the beliefs, but how to rationalize them and justify them. Sputtering about statistics of prison populations and black-on-black crime, while ignoring the obvious that duh, of course a racist system is going to have more of one race than another in prison, and in order to have more POC in prison all you have to do is CONVICT more POC, regardless of whether or not they actually did crime.

Mr Reynholm wrote:

Even this comment has some casual racism built into it. The idea that they want things more "Afro-centric", when they're not african, they're f**king AMERICANS. They've BEEN americans for hundreds of years. Their identity is tied to who they are as AMERICANS. They don't want to make swahili the national language, they speak f**king english like most other AMERICANS. Framing it as an "afro-centric" thing only serves to "other" them. It's another scare-the-white-folks tactic. "They're coming for your culture! They're going to erase you!" No, they just want to live in the same america as everyne else, and not a "separate but equal" one where things are anything but. They're not "blacks-in-america. They're goddamn american citizens. They don't want their ass kissed, they just want the boot off their neck.

Just cos someone says "all lives matter", doesn't mean they think all lives matter EQUALLY. It leaves the room to still believe that SOME lives matter more than others. That SOME lives are more important than others. After all...

Mr Reynholm wrote:

It sure is, and that's why it's framed that way. To make sure it sounds unreasonable. It's the easiest strawman. If they ask for an inch, make it sound like a mile, and scoff at the audacity.

"Racism isn't real", decided a bunch of white people, surrounded by more white people. White privilege is people proudly waving the flag of freedom, and eagerly jumping up and down like a jack russel terrier to make sure everyone knows that the republican north "freed the salves", but conveniently ignoring the fact that it wasn't a moral dilemma that they acted upon by the the goodness of their sweet little hearts - it was cos the south was rich and powerful, thanks to slavery, and ending slavery was a way to undercut their power and wealth by removing their free labor force, and enticing them north with promised of "freedom" deceptively written into indentured service contracts - a new, different kind of slavery. Now we use debt.

But hey, tell me again how racism is totally over cos we had a black president and there are a few wealthy POC. And anyways...

Mr Reynholm wrote:

Which conveniently works out quite nicely if you're part of the 86% of amerca that the government and society does pander to.

Redressed inequality always tastes like a shit-sandwich, when you're the one that's been benefitting from the inequality. "What?! NO more slaves?! You mean now I have to PAY people?! Why should I have to pay them when I could just FORCE them! SO unfair!"

And as for "affirmative action", I've found that those who screech and wail the loudest about it, oft have no idea how it works - tending to believe that it means something like "taking opportunities from white folks who totally deserve it, and giving it to POC who totally don't deserve it - and that's not what it is at all. All people seem to be able to squeeze into their tiny minds is the notion of "quotas" and being forced to hire or accept a certain number of minorities, whether they actually qualify or not. Which has no basis in reality, except in the imaginations of those desperate to make themselves out to be the hero, the victim, and the martyr, all at once.

In no part of affirmative action does it say that you have to accept unqualified people. What it does say, is that given the laws of normal distribution, the population of accepted individuals should at lest loosely resemble the population of applicants. In other words, if the people applying are 50% black, and 50% white, a workforce of ALL white people, OR ALL black people, is statistically rare, and should be investigated. There are no hard quotas that must be filled or unqualified applicants forced through to fill token slots - thats more things-white-people-say-to-enrage-ignorant-white-people, and make things look less "unequal".

This discussion is disappointing.

Then they go and pull the lever for a Democrat, and pat themselves on the back for being on the right side of history. How do you think California got the way it is, with San Francisco being the arch example? That's what's so ironic about the vast majority of woke progressivism, most of it is kabuki theater to prove that you're one of the good guys without actually having to make any sacrifices, such as having a shelter near your expensive home, or allowing multi-family zoning in your neighborhood, or making actual structural changes if you're a corporation putting up a rainbow flag or a BLM poster.

As far as shelters are concerned:

In the decent neighborhood where I used to live (Briarwood, Queens), they built a shelter for homeless families about 20 years ago. This did not affect the "property values" one bit. In fact, there's been a lot of recent construction of co-op type apartment houses recently.

This bigotry and othering of other white people are not limited to "radical chic" neighborhoods. The same thing goes on in middle and working-class neighborhoods. They are just as capable of deflecting their bigotry as their liberal brethren. I know rich neighbors do this to their less fortunate neighbors from the media. I know about working and middle-class people doing that to their less fortunate neighbors from growing up and living with them.

Yeah, how silly of me to get even slightly annoyed about something that I've had to watch my family and friends suffer at the hands of, even in this "enlightened" day and age, where these things supposedly don't exist anymore.

But who cares, right? It's not YOUR problem. Trololol!

People who don't give AF about anyone else expect you to then give AF about them.

Now THAT'S worth a chuckle.

Bigotry doesn't have to be hate. It can be as simple as "I don't care".

Clearly some people don't. This is something to feel proud of?

If racism is in fact gone, it's been replaced with something worse - apathy with a hint of something akin to sadism schadenfreude. Comfort, if not satisfaction, that there are people beneath you on which you can step, just as you feel stepped on by those you see as above you, in a sort of sardonic equilibrium.

If the fundamental basis of one's argument is "why should I care?", they can hardly be surprised when others in turn cease to care about them.

This discussion is still disappointing. Not surprising. But disappointing.

I notice conservatives across the western world are involved in so called history/culture wars which is code for erasing history. And there is a reason why critical race theory, evolution and climate change are such an anathema to conservatives.

There's a rather apt line in the movie the Matrix from Agent Smith as he's interrogating Morpheus
Agent Smith: I like to share a revelation that I've had during my time here. It came to me when I try to classify your species. I realized that you're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively creates a natural equilibrium with it's surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You are a plague, and we are the cure.

I'm guessing this line resonates with native people around the world when they think of how imperial colonists behave on this planet. Systemic power is not just a theory, its a fact.
