For under 16s

Is it worth it

I just think the proposal is a show to make people think they're doing something, when really they're doing Jack

I am against it because I am libertarian and think we should let their parents decide.

Better middle-road solution, make outrage algorithm curation for children 16 and under illegal and enforceable in the way of lawsuits and penalties for platforms who know that they have a child on their servers and still feed them rage-bate.

I avoid social media completely so I wouldn't know.

Why won't they do that

I also agree that it really ought to be down to parents

Also I can't see it working because kids have siblings who may have access to social media
Do the government think families live in isolation of each other in their own homes

That seems extreme, and more likely to cause them to find ways around the rules which could be more dangerous for them. I think it would be better to teach kids online safety and maybe more can be done by social media companies to help keep kids from being harmed online.

What are we doing to protect the elderly from disinformation and scammers on social media?

Everyone's focused on the kids, but there's a lot of vulnerable old folks.

No. I used to manage my daughter's youtube account so she couldn't access inapropriate videos. Now, under the law she can still legally access Youtube, she just has to do so without an account. Which means now she can access anything. The full open Youtube. There's no way to manage someone who's not signed in.

I think social media should be banned for under 16s.

You also need to monitor email. My daughter has been periodically been banned off social media due to epic battles with former friends (fellow Aspies) on Facebook but she also found ways to get on group email accounts and continue fights until I get phone calls from irate parents.

email is problematic as she needs it for college.
