Anyone else feel this?

I just saw a neurotypical woman post something in one of the other forums about a marital problem, and in the end she threw in that "I have faith in Jesus Christ and I know he will get us through this..." so suddenly, and seemingly uncaring of anyone else that would believe anything different. And it just turned my stomach.

I don't see many Aspies doing this, just neurotypicals. Is this just coincidence?

There are loads of aspie that do this as well unfortunately, it would seem we are just as vulnerable to religious brainwashing as everyone else. :(

People that spout religion make me feel uncomfortable but people that have their beliefs as long as they do not try to save me or force it on me are fine-we have freedom of religion in the US but also we have freedom from religion too.

Not if you live in certain parts of Utah, or certain parts of the South. There is no escaping it.

There are quite a few religious aspies that say that religion has helped them when it comes to socializing. Most churches have active social groups that try to be "more understanding"(usually its a facade thing but I guess its better than nothing) than non religious social groups.

As for how to act around religious people: I try to be understanding of their position and look for whats beyond their religious views as long as they dont start with the whole you need to be saved stuff(whenever we reach this point I politely point out that I havent heard the call and forcing things would be pointless before trying to find someone more suitable/understanding)

Heh, my dad likes to rehash the quote from... Oh, I don't remember who -- One of the right-wing 'Entertainer' type writers/talk radio people. "Freedom of religion does NOT mean freedom FROM religion."

I've long since stopped arguing with him because it's not worth completely alienating my dad. I try to practice religious tolerance, but it isn't the easiest for me. Luckily, I'm American and get a WHOLE bunch of practice.

Maybe my religion is to not follow a religion so its my freedom to do so.

Stick around PPR and you will see all the worst religion has to offer in terms of logical explanations

Why even concern yourself?

I think I know what thread you are on about and I would heed on ruveyn's advice and not concern yourself with it.
People that turn to religion to excuse or shield them from their problems are not really of the faith in my view. And I would take most of what they say with a pinch of salt. If seeing stuff like this makes your stomach feel bad or makes you angry avoid posts like it and focus on something else, that way you avoid conflict.

I almost started a thread like this. I'm seeing my mom really caught up in the teaching of Hell and it's disturbing.

For a while she thought my brother was going to Hell. But recently he was served divorce papers and someone put him in contact with a priest for counseling. He seems to like this priest and might try going to his services. So to my mom this is a miracle and now thinks my brother is saved from Hell.

I'm also hearing a lot of Faith talk like the op mentioned.

If figure soon the nagging will start for me to attend a church again.

Most religions are silly and possibly dangerous, except The Church of Cuddles of Frederik the Crocodile, of course.

Some religions are appetizing.

"I have faith in Jesus Christ and I know he will get us through this..."
That’s someone stating their belief, not necessarily mandating it for someone else.
Freedom of religion is not freedom from religion.
If someone said they had faith in Budha it wouldn’t even occur to me to be offended.
To each his (or her) own…..
