My mom is very Catholic and I hear about these things from her. I'm not sure what to think of these Apparitions or secret messages Mary gives to these kids. I'm mostly curious if anyone else here interesting in religion has looked into these things. Partly because when I try Googling for this material most of the results I get are Blogs.

Actually this link has some interesting info and leads. Some of the info I do find has me skeptical. This seems like a bizarre mix of religion and politics and propaganda at work.

Hmmm...personally of what I believe, I think that the ''Mary'' is none other than demons appearing as her. :?

Just my two cents...

Imo, unless this "Mary" thing speaks to you directly, you would be better off to ignore it.

Even if it does speak to you directly, you might want to ask for proof of its identity.

But if the OP was to see this ''Mary'', then IMO, couldn't the demon simply deceive the OP? Since, in Christianity, they are able to tempt people with sin, thus to make the OP believe it is Mary, the demon could easily trick the OP?

That's pretty much it. Since humans are so easily fooled, it's probably best to ignore such "apparitions".

I understand the one little girl who became the center of this whole circus was described as being a liar by both her mother and her own priest. This child - and later adult woman - had weaved this whole fiction for a public that wanted to believe in such things as Mary's apparition. I suppose even mass hysteria could have allowed many to see something that wasn't there, while others simply claimed to have seen the apparition (great Mary's ghost!) simply out of a need to join with the herd.

Heh thanks for the feedback. Some of these things I hear about because my Mom reads SpiritDaily.com.

It's strange because she self identifies as a fundamentalist. it seems like a fundy would denounce stuff like this as heresy. But on the other hand it almost seems like Mary is a Catholic Demi-God.

The Miracle of the Sun in Fatima seems pretty self explanatory, bunch of people stared at the sun too long.

She is very important to Catholics.

Extraordinary claims demand extraordinary evidence. If there's no such evidence, then there's no good reason to believe those claims.

Back in my home village as a kid, I remember when there was a time when faith healing was happening a lot in the local church because of an oil dripping icon or two, and many of the villagers witnessed the appearances of the Virgin Mary. Back then, I used to believe what they claimed to have seen and believed, but I never did see the Virgin Mary myself, no matter how strong the emotions going on in the village about all this.

So, later in life, I realized I just never had a good reason to believe she really did appear to those villagers. Because if she did, why weren't the appearances obvious to the whole village (including me and the other people who actually never saw her)? Why was it only the hysteria and the questionable faith healings that initially made me believe?

I get a little nervous about this.

On on hand the revelations at Fatima were taken so seriously by the Catholic church that some of the later revelations were covered up by the Vatican.

OTOH, I've heard often that there has been an attempt - by outside forces - to pollute the father, son, and holy spirit with the Gnostic father, mother, and son; essentially where Mary could be recycled as a symbol of Isis which would make the father Osiris and the son Horus. From that perspective there's a fair chance that some of the immaculate Virgin sightings could be Isis rather than Mary.

What's the trouble with that? The mystery school trinity is the inversion, the margarine or NutraSweet; essentially the stuff of the 'great deception' of the tribulation. That trinity is where the guy who sits in at the abomination of desolation comes from.

It's called psychosis.

I see black shadow people all the time, and I've had a couple of people talk to me before (when no one was there). That's psychosis

I had wondered about that to. If even just one or two have a real serious delusion and others just kind of join in contributing to mass delusion or mass hysteria. Or if any might have something like schizophrenia?

Otherwise, once tourists started coming there was probably pressure to keep this thing going.

"Mass sightings" would be social empathy, i.e., when someone yawns you also yarn (which is something I don't do, funnily), and also magical thinking to go with it.
