I'm sure that you all know that the Pope is now in a better place, unless you don't have a TV or a Radio. My favroite memory of Pope John Paul II is when he came over to Abbotsford, British Columbia for a visit in 1984. I was Nine going on Ten at the time. I watched him in the Living Room an the little 15 inch TV. I kept on asking my Mom if she would take me to see the Pope. She told me no, because he was Catholic and we were Protestant. I thought that was crazy, because I feel that Jesus recieves everybody in the same way. What are your favroite memories of the Pope?

Pope John Paul The Great was the only Pope i have ever known. He knew how to run the church, moral, conservative, but lovingly. With God's Grace we will have another Pope with his vision and holiness. I hop he will be cannonized just think.. St. John Paul or St. Karol (Wojtyla)sp?

There has never been another pope in my lifetime, and I don't really have a favourite memory of him. After he died, though, his childhood best friend was interviewed and told an amazing story about him. I'll give a summary of it.

The citizens of Poland between World War I and World War II were extremely anti-semetic. At that time Karol Wojtyla (John Paul II) was working as an alter boy. He was about 9 or 10. His best friend, who was a Jewish boy, would often sit and wait for him to finish Mass so they could go to the park. One day the Jewish boy was waiting at the door of the church when a woman walked out. She saw the boy, and saw that he was Jewish. She rudely asked 'What are you doing here?' The boy replied 'I am waiting for my friend.' Just when the woman was about to make an anti-semetic remark, the future pope walked out of the church. He said to the woman 'Are we not all children of God?' The woman was left speechless, and he and his friend walked to the park.

The Jewish boy and John Paul II actually remained friends for the rest of their lives, and often visited each other and travelled together.

It's stories like these that show you that there are special people out there who are destined for great things.

Grow up people he was a leader that protected paedophile priests from justice, continued the catholic pogram against homosexuals and kept to the idiotic ideology of abstinence over contraception.

Being less vile than your predecessors does make someone a saint

Oh and my favourite memories were in the days after he died: I had a good laugh at all the fools bawling their eyes out and calling for his canonisation.

Was Pope John Paul ever a Nazi? Did you even read the story?

No. It is his successor Benny 16. Sieg Heil!

I do wish the new Pope would say Amen! instead of Jawohl!

For the record, I am Catholic but I do not agree with everything the Catholic Church says or its all of current policies. With the degree of corruption and criminality at the highest levels of power, any kind of reformation or rennaisance is unlikely. Tear it all down, start over. That's what I say.

his unequivocal resistance against birth control in face of the enormous human suffering that HIV brought upon the world, especially women and children and the poor

If you have sex w/o protection and get HIV, that is your own damned fault.

Ifyou're stupid, you have no one to blame but yourself.

People who get it from sharing-needles are also stupid.

He forgave a guy that tried to assasinate him......

He became the first pope to pray in an Islamic mosque...

He made many apologies to Jews, women, victims of the inquisition, Muslims, and people that were slaughtered by the Catholic church...... :?

He had a sense of humor...

And he had a sense of style...

And since he's been gone, we now have the antichrist on our hands...

if you have grown up being told that using condoms is a grave sin, and live in a society where its frowned upon, its not your own damn fault its the fault of the ret*ds that are in power. if the pope had condoned the use of condoms HIV rates would be nowhere near where they are today. if a lot of people listen to you you have a goddamn responsibility not to tell them to do stupid things

The Church certainly does NOT approve of unprotected sex. I agree with you about the condom thing. Since people are going to have sex no matter what, it's better for everybody if condoms are used. I find a lot of the Church's teachings, especially the sex stuff, to be out of touch with reality.

So I'm not arguing with you on this one.

Does anyone really expect Pope Benedict to measure up to his predessecor? I mean, seriously?

I don't think anyone can. JP2 was really unique.
