Let's find a way back to talking.

There will be stuff that's difficult to ignore directed at anyone who posts in this thread, I predict. I recommend ignoring it here as a test.

What can we agree on?

I put it to you that the fun of name-calling, and even the fun of recalling old insults, is less than the fun of novel, creative, and perhaps biting characterizations of individual actions. Actions, and patterns of actions, but not people.

There is possibility of civil discourse on this forum but the probably of it is rather low. It will only get worse over the next 4-8 years. I'd not concern myself with it but instead treat it like a perpetual high school cafeteria food fight.

In order for PPR to be "fixed," non-political threads would have to be introduced.

Otherwise, it will be the Trumpeters against the Clintonettes.....liberal vs conservative.

I learned quite a bit about ancient Asia Minor coins when I first got to WP--through PPR.

There was also some actually great Biblical scholarship exhibited here. Where has all this gone?

Kraichgauer and Raptor are always at it; it's like they're buddies for life. Their bond is their supposed disdain for each other.

Either that, or they argue because they feel a need to validate their views on things. For me, it's some of both, though way more of the latter. As much as I hate to admit it, I have an almost pathological need for validation. I actually envy people who don't give a crap what others think, because I'm very much not that. I care way too much. It drives me insane too.

Some of the religious reactionaries have left. I don't think the ones who remain bother to open a bible. You can probably start a discussion if you ignore or at worst succinctly shame wild hair up the wazoo commentary.

Can we agree that getting drawn in to a debate about details so deep that the original point gets lost remains a problem for people generally?

I'm gonna be frank. I had to shut of another movie earlier, Continental Circus, psychedelic music set to motorcycle crashes. ikr. The band was probably a little freaked out when they saw the final cut. lol.

This seems like probably several put together. I'll watch later, for sure.
