I have reasons to question the notion that the Bible is actually inspired by God.

Doesn't anyone get bored with these religion threads?

I like you, greenblue, but I don't think this is the most useful place to be making this sort of inquiry. If you're interested in a particular religion's take on the issue, I would suggest visiting an apologetics site for said religion and reading up on what they believe. Even among Christians, the answer to this question varies widely and can take on some very subtle differences.

If you don't like religion threads then why the hell are you in the Politics, Philosophy and Religion forum?

No/Most likely no.
And if the crap in the Bible really is true, then I'm f*cked.
But I don't care. 8)

It was just my opinion and a suggestion. There's nothing wrong with bringing up topics which are of interest to you! Please don't feel bad--that was not my intention at all.

There are other topics in politics religion and philosophy then just the bible which is what most of the threads end up being about. I think it's boring and intellectually lazy to have a forum where essentially all the atheists clobber the one or two religious members in over half the threads, I just don't like forums that becomes a place for group think and mental masturbation.

If you don't like the Christian threads then why don't you start one about something you are actually interested in instead of just complaining?

While I think some more delicate phrasing could have been employed, I think that Phssthpok does have a point. There are a number of threads in this section in which posters have departed from intellectual honesty and simply gone mean-spirited. I am glad we have a place to discuss matters people care and wonder about, but to me it seem that the primary aim should be guileless interchange of ideas and information, rather than the repeated setting up and knocking over of straw men. In addition to being non-constructive, it also gives the feel of riding into enemy territory for those who happen to be in the minority.

That's a very ambitious wish on my part though. I have never personally witnessed an online religious debate in which neither side made use of the old straw man.

I took most likely no, if there was "I dont care" I'd take it. I am an apatheist. I just don't care about the god question and rather put my intellectual resources into other more important pursuits.

Please don't feel guilty, I realise I probably shouldn't do this, it was discussed before anyway, so it was pointless. But if people come here and discuss it, I guess is ok now.

Soph, you just made me smile.
I always laugh when you talk like that in religion's threads, please don't take it in the wrong way
