BLM protests in the UK and irony
Does anyone else see the irony of breaking social distancing rules to protest about the death of George Floyd and many other black lives actually increases the risk of more lives being lost. BAME are 35% ( i think ) more likely to die if they get the virus.
And when you point out this fact to protesters they will use nearly all logical fallacies but usually Ad Hominem. I could understand better if the only risk involved was your own life.

I can't buy into that school of thought as in the UK between 10 April and 15 May, care services that provide support to people with learning difficulties and autistic people reported 386 deaths of people with learning difficulties, compared with 165 in the same period last year. This was an increase of 134 per cent due to the virus. I seriously doubt police violence was up 134%.

Yes there’s an irony there and I think people should be protesting in a socially distanced fashion, but I don’t think it’s particularly cutting to point this out. People choosing to risk their lives in order to protest that other people don’t value their lives highly enough isn’t a contradiction.
I am finding the whole thing frustrating and stupid. For one thing why do this now during a pandemic just because this is going on in the US. Secondly in America the demonstrators are asking for things such as the arrest of the men involved ect in the UK they are shouting don't shoot at police who are unarmed. One of the reasons UK police are not armed is because they have repeatedly voted against being routinely armed.
Our police force is not perfect but it is the best police force in the world and doesn't deserve (nor is it helpful) to have people assume that it is just like the US.
Anyone interested can go on the BBC website there's an article and statistics, it's very interesting. Demonstrators are saying you are twice as likely to die in custody if you are black. However if you are arrested then you are 25% more likely to die if you are white. The higher number of black people dying as a proportion of the population comes down to their being more likely to be arrested in the first place it is not evidence they are being miss treated. Asians are less likely to be arrested that white people and when they are in custody less likely to die. What helps to make sense of these statistics is that two thirds of those who die in custody chock or suffocate due to something they have taken. It would be interesting to see how things lined up if those deaths were removed.
Also stop and search (understandably unpopular) is more common in areas with high knife crime, these are also very urban areas and therefore have higher percentages of people who are not white. It would be useful to compare whether black lads are stopped more often than white lads, within these areas rather than against national statistics. If BLM want to make things better they should think of an alternative to stop and search that works to stop kids getting knifed (a BIG problem here, particularly for young black men).
A black person living in Lincolnshire (rural) is not going to experience stop and search.
Despite what the statistics say even though Asians are least likely to be arrested and least likely to die in custody there is being arrested and there is BEING ARRESTED. I would be most nervous of the police if I were an Asian male than anything else. An armed response unit breaking down the door would scare the s**t out of anyone whatever colour their skin is. I wouldn't be caught dead buying any kind of fertiliser and it would have to be minus 20 before I'd leave the house in a puffa jacket.

Sorry that you thought my topic not cutting enough for PPR , perhaps you should move it to the random section.
People choosing to risk theirs , their families and everyone else they meet lives in order to protest with like minded people that other people don't value their lives highly enough is totally a contradiction.
We are well on our way to a 2nd wave in the UK and unfortunately these protests will be used nefariously by some as the reason whether it is or isn't true. I honestly think if a 2nd wave happens and lots of loved ones die their is a chance that it will breed a long term resentment in this country. Racists don't need much fuel.

Few people have been stupid enough to believe they were above the law and safe from repercussions in the UK since 1649.

I hadn't thought of that, but yes it is a possibility. Let us hope for the best.

You agreed about social distancing , have a different dictionary definition of contradiction to mine , what point of mine is not watertight?

I also see the irony that they protest the lack of respect for life by jeopardizing a lot of other lives, namely those of at-risk groups who might accidentally come in touch with these idiots who overthrow social distancing restrictions.
It also isn't lost on me that most of the protesters are teens, young, strong and unfortunately highly prioritized by those in power, and those who will suffer for it are old, chronically sick and unfortunately highly non-prioritized by those who grant money.
It's also extremely ironic that they yelled "I can't breathe!" while the pandemic they might now help spread causes that very symptom in those it hits hard, thereof the name Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome.
Words can't expressed how impressed I am not. They could have protested while staying distanced and taking up more space for more impact and with less risk for others, giving them more respect. I am not alone in my view.
And they could have done petitions putting no one at risk.
OBOS here in Norway has said that those among their employees who participated must enter two week quarantine. Good to know there are still someone with a working brain.

However, it's the old people who are prized because they vote.
The young are too poor, busy, uninterested, or lazy to vote.
poor = (no transportation, or working)
