"Experts" claim that Fluoridated water improves dental health. But they could not be more wrong.

I think most nations in Europe reject fluoridation because the scientific evidence indicates it does nothing to protect against cavities and it may cause osteoporosis, cancer, and other health problems. Yet it doesn't stop people from saying you're a conspiracy theorist or brainwashed by junk science for opposing it. For many people, if the government and national organizations say it's good then it doesn't matter what science says. I think fluoride should be outlawed everywhere. It should be re-declared a hazardous waste product like it used to be. And we shouldn't allow companies to use junk science and corrupt politicians to dump poisonous chemicals into the water supply instead of paying for proper disposal of hazardous wastes.

I agree. It is NOT safe, and bone cancer rates in the US have increased, amongst other things, due to the use of fluoride. You don't even have to be a conspiracy theorist to say that.

Children who drink fluoridated water do have lower rates of dental decay, and this protection continues through the adult years. But having adults drink fluoridated water does not reduce cavities -their teeth are already formed, and the fluoride isn't added to the enamel.

And there are risk issues associated with fluoridation. Fluoride may also interfere with thyroid function - it is similar to Iodine.

Quote:
Probl Endokrinol (Mosk). 1985 Nov-Dec;31(6):25-9.
[Action of the body fluorine of healthy persons and thyroidopathy patients on the function of hypophyseal-thyroid the system]
[Article in Russian]

Bachinskiĭ PP, Gutsalenko OA, Naryzhniuk ND, Sidora VD, Shliakhta AI.

Altogether 123 persons were examined: 47 healthy persons, 43 patients with thyroid hyperfunction and 33 with thyroid hypofunction. It was established that prolonged consumption of drinking water with a raised fluorine content (122 +/- 5 mumol/l with the normal value of 52 +/- 5 mumol/l) by healthy persons caused tension of function of the pituitary-thyroid system that was expressed in TSH elevated production, a decrease in the T3 concentration and more intense absorption of radioactive iodine by the thyroid as compared to healthy persons who consumed drinking water with the normal fluorine concentration. The results led to a conclusion that excess of fluorine in drinking water was a risk factor of more rapid development of thyroid pathology. Indicators of the fluorine content in daily urine provide most of the information on changes of the fluorine amount in the body.

I live close to the coast, and there is lots of hardness, sediments, sodium, iron, chloride, chlorine, fluoride and other things in the water. We got a reverse-osmosis unit a while back, and within a few months, our cat with the severe anxiety problems became normal. Coincidence? Maybe. But he might have had a hard time balancing all the ions. Might have been something as simple as the sodium.

I'm not sure about the 'risks' of water fluoridation. Fluoride is about to be introduced into the water supply of my state in Australia (Queensland). It has been in the supply of other states for a while now with successful results and no known negative consequences, it’s also been introduced in Townsville with the same result.

At the same time, I'm not real keen on mass medication like this. A child who needs the fluoride isn't going to drink as much water as an adult (who doesn't need it) working on the roads in summer conditions. I think state sponsored handing out of dissolvable tablets might be a better solution.

yep, i always wonderd why they put flouride in water, sometimes they even put bleach in it and other nasty chemicals, thankfully we get our water from wells and off of the peaks with no additives. i remember watching the phoenix news and one of the berbs was having a water problem, (water was brown) and the newsperson was all, "your water might be a little brown, and city officials say it is OK to drink, just put a little lemon wege in it to give it flavor" i was totally shocked and then LOL'd

the older you get, the less water you drink, actually.

I think Hitler was the first to add fluoride in the water after he found evidence that it makes people more passive, easier to control, and less likely to resist the government. That's the likely reason the government wants it. Businesses want it to avoid having to dispose of fluoride as a hazardous waste as they did previously.

There's massive amounts of scientific data on fluoride risks as well as studies showing fluoride has absolutely no health benefits for anyone. Check out http://www.fluoridealert.org/ for all the evidence.

Yet the government is determined to fluoridate our water. The Pennsylvania government is trying to pass a bill requiring water authorities to poison our water with it. http://www.actionpa.org/fluoride/bills/ Fluoride is toxic crap that should be banned everywhere.

Exactly.

There have even been examples of people dying and getting severely ill when the fluoride-adding machinery malfunctioned. It's dangerous stuff.
The levels naturally occuring in water are not enough to affect health in the same way that artificially adding fluoride does.
It has a detrimental effect on health. Only when there is a serious fluoride leak and hundreds are killed, will the majority wake up to the facts.

I'm not convinced that fluoride in the water is a tranquilizer, or that sodium fluoride is so different from the various types of fluoride that can occur naturally in water or in foods like tea and blueberries. The tranquilizer belief has been around for a long time, but I have not seen any research to back it up.

A study today found that calcium supplements might actually increase the risk of heart attack and stroke. Does this mean that all calcium is a deadly poison?? I don't think so - sometimes, the dose is the poison. Taking calcium without magnesium is usually a bad idea.

And the doses are not only far too high, but an infringement upon personal choice. Local governments often take the cheap route of using fluorosilic acid, as well. Industrial Fluoride.

Consuming natural foods is the healthiest option. If you want to ensure dental health, drink milk and brush your teeth regularly.

*Yawn* 50 years ago people were claiming that water fluoridation was a communist plot and other such nonsense. Sad that this crap is still around.

I do not see the use of fluoridating water. Taste goes bad, there are health risks.

And kids can be given fluor twice a year at the dentist; or with loose tablets.

But mass medication is more common. In The Netherlands there has to be a certain amount of iodine in the bread, to prevent certain diseases. But since immigrants do not eat bread, they now put it also in things like spaghetti and other pastas.

It's true though. Look at the evidence presented. A convenient way to get rid of industrial fluorides, and it doesn't really help dental health, but certainly has negative impacts on bone health. No unfounded theory at all. In fact, no conspiracy theories are without some sort of foundation of truth. It isn't even a conspiracy theory, but a health warning.

so did mrs t... but actually i think you'll find God was the first to put fluoride and silicate in the water supply, several thousand years before uncle adolf! though maybe His reasoning was similar

thatcher, hitler, God.... yes, definitely a conspiracy
