Aside from Christianity, do you believe there will come a time for another great prophet or great teacher in the future. If so, explain what you think it will be and it doesn't have to be a human either. It could be a situation like UFOs good or bad. I don't want any religous conflicts on this forum either. Just state your opinion if you have one and respect the other's opinions. I know it's a sensative subject. I'm curious to hear.

i think we're in an exciting situation right now, with the role of science under examination, ( not just by me, ok   ), and finite fossil fuels approaching exhaustion, and space travel/colonisation almost a necessity this century.
What more do you want? ! ! :D

An exciting situation where opinions clash, people divide and argue, and a new order is established.

:P

There seems to be a repeating cycle of relative stability->progress->conflict->instability and loss of progress->relative stability->progress....

So I predict that sometime in the future there will be conflict leading to losses of technology and knowledge, and only after that will there be a period where they catch back up to where they were before, and only after that will they progress far beyond that only to have it all knocked back down again, and so on.

Yah, but unfortunately, many people do not think with satellites or computers, and TV makes most people not think. They still believe silly nonsense. Technology changes, people don't.

I think there are still powerful prophets to come. Revelation 11 in the Bible talks about two witnesses in the final days who will be able to perform extreme wonders and miracles, and will prophecy for 3 1/2 years straight, after which they will be killed, then resurrected.

People are still able to be fooled, but I think that society is in general more skeptical than before. I don't think any future "prophet" could get a following as large as Christianity, Islam, etc. If some guy claimed to be raised from the dead by spiritual forces tomorrow, mere hours later we'd have hundreds of thousands of people trying to debunk him.

Revelation 11 is one of the end time passages I find most interesting, especially verses 8-10.

"Their bodies will lie in the street of the great city, which is figuratively called Sodom and Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified. For three and a half days men from every people, tribe, language and nation will gaze on their bodies and refuse them burial. The inhabitants of the earth will gloat over them and will celebrate by sending each other gifts, because these two prophets had tormented those who live on the earth. (Rev 11:8-10, NIV)"

I have an online bible with older commentaries that are available for free. It's funny reading their interpretation on this passage. They were all confused and couldn't understand it. One had a page long interpretation on how the above two verses could possibly be fulfilled. What they couldn't understand was:

How will people from all over the world be able to see their bodies?

If this passage is taken literally, it would take a supernatural miracle from God to allow people living thousands of miles away to somehow be able to see these two people. That was 100 years ago. Now, we have television that can broadcast these two witnesses all over the world so that men from every people, tribe, language and nation can see them.

It also seems to indicate that these two witnesses will be in Jerusalem in Israel. The Romans took Jerusalem around AD 70 and Israel didn't become a nation again until 1948.

There are lots of end time passages that couldn't be explained until recently. There are also prophecies from well respected early church writings in the 2nd and 3rd centuries that predict the world will end soon (by soon, I mean possibly in our lifetime).

All the first 3 in your poll.
But be aware, deciept is in mind and you might regret the choice you make.

Rev 13

8 And all those who dwell on the earth will worship it; the name of not one of them stands written in the scroll of life of the Lamb who was slaughtered, from the founding of the world.

Well, according to the Baha'i's (anyone here Baha'i), this world prophet has already come, in the form of a Persian nobleman who called himself Baha'u'llah (Glory of God) and lived in the middle of the 19th century. I believe that Baha'u'llah made his announcement that he was the promised prophet of all world religions in 1844, which if you are into religious history, was the year that the Millerites in the US announced the second coming of Christ (Baha'u'llah claimed to be that among other things); also around that time Joseph Smith either discovered or wrote the Book of Mormon (depending on your belief). Coincidence?

Anyway Baha'u'llah's stating that he was a prophet got the Muslims upset because there are not supposed to be any more prophets after Muhammad. They ended up exiling him to Mount Carmel in Israel which the infant Baha'i movement exploited to the fullest, quoting several verses in the Bible which talks about the Glory of God coming to Mount Carmel. (Since he did not chose the location, no one could accuse Baha'u'llah of manipulating events to suit the prophecy.) The reason they did not issue a fatwa and kill him was because they had already done so with Baha'u'llah's predecessor, a John The Baptist-like figure who was known as The Bab (the Gate) and they did not want any more martyrs on hand. They figured that if Baha'u'llah was allowed to live undisturbed on Mount Carmel and die a natural death, his movement might likewise die out. They were wrong. I don't have exact figures but I do know it is a growing world religion although still very much in its infancy. It has several intriguing tenants, including science and religion must agree (if they don't it is religion that must change); the equality of men and women; a universal auxillary language (Esperanto is seen as the fulfillment of Baha'u'llah's prophecy), and a one-world government. Baha'is do not believe in evangelizing and they generally keep out of politics. Bahai's are still very much persecuted in Muslim countries even though this does not make the news.

Baha'is also believe in progressive revelation, that God sends new prophets as needed to earth, and that is why there are so many religions in the world. Baha'u'llah is the most recent one and supposedly the last, although there are hints in the Baha'i writings that after about 20,000 years God will send another prophet. While I am not Baha'i myself, I do think it is a religion worth keeping its eye on, and may very well be the faith of the 21st century and beyond.

Yes, but a rather unconventional one in many ways.
