I'm not necessarily a pagan or wiccan but i respect their beliefs. The Wiccans I've known were sweet people who were accepting of other peoples' beliefs. They worship the earth and use spells to heal. Wiccans believe in something called the "three fold law". That means that every action you do comes back to you three times as much. It's basically a karma. I don't understand why so many people hate wiccans and pagans. First of all, they are NOT devil worshipers. They don't even believe in a devil. Why would people of one religion worship the bad guy from another religion?? According to biblical peoples, god created the earth. So why is it evil to worship something god made for us?? Pagans also tend to be sensible. I've never had one knock on my door early in the morning and hand me a brochure and say "Have you accepted the goddess as your savior?" And so what if they believe in a god AND a goddess?? I actually believe god is a genderless force, but i take no offense to them believeng in both a male and female deity. My opinion is that wiccans and pagans are just like the rest of us. Their are good ones and bad ones. However, i've read much about pagan and wiccan philosophy and have NEVER found anything evil or wicked about it. Nor have i ever read anything about devil worshipping. Could it be that biblical people are accusing wiccans as being devil worshippers the same way that for 2,000 years they have accused jews, muslims, hindus, buddhists and even catholics of being devil worshippers at one point or another?? At the very least, wiccans are harmless. They are usually just chubby red-haired women who care about the earth! jk.

I agree with you. I once cohabited with a Wiccan woman, was in love with her very deeply. I learned something of her religion, but not nearly enough to satisfy my exploding curiosity. The ways of the neo-pagan are so easily misconstrued as "witchcraft", "devil worship." Wicca seems so beautiful to me, yet because of my Catholic heritage I'd never have been completely at ease with it.

I do not believe that Wicca was ever sinister or evil.

Because the majority of this country is made of bigoted Christians who think that anything that doesn't involve kissing their God's behind is sinful.

Some of the coolest people I know are pagan/wiccan <3

I don't hate wiccans or pagans, my own personal interactions with self proclaimed witches leads me to believe that a lot of flakes adopt it as an affectation to get attention. It's their right to do so, but I'm not obliged to take attention whores seriously. I don't view dancing naked around a fire as being any more effective than praying. To each, their own.

Pagans don't dance around fires naked regularly, if at all x_x

I think of it just as irrational as any other religion.

i guess its one part fear and one part disturbance - after all, the imprint of scolastic christianity is still strong, and all those more nature-bound religions go quite against that current.

Since it's been so strongly reinforced by Western culture over time, it would be easier to unscramble an egg than to seperate Wicca from its sinister reputation. The damage was done centuries ago, and now it's irreversible.

The notion of the evil broom-riding hag is unfortunately here to stay. That's why Wicca and other neopaganisms can only survive in secret. This secrecy and the mystique it creates really feeds into the notion of the evil witch.

I am Christian and I believe in Jesus, but not necessarily in the Church. I guess you could call me a liberal and progressive Christian. :thumleft:

Me too, although I have become a bit less liberal in the past few weeks.

I think that it is just that the Christians defeated the Pagans so many centuries ago, and went to so much effort to obliterate the Pagan religions, that it would be difficult for any modern person to take ancient Pagan beliefs seriously.

Blame it all on Constantine.

"Why do people hate wiccans and pagans??"

I can think of lots of reasons. Some of the "my-religion-can-beat-up-your-religion" variety, some not. I myself don't particularly hate them, but I think they're at least as silly as other religious people. Some of us are past all that stuff. And quite frankly, you religious types are slowing us down. It shouldn't be surprising if we get a little annoyed with you now and then.

It was sort of my understanding that, the christian church took over alot of pagan symbology, sun worship, christmas trees, and the such, and since the Roman times, they would replace these pagan rites to christian rites by adapting the pagan symbols.
I had watched that movie called Zeitgeist a while back, and found some of the confections it made quite fascinating.

Who is being "slowed down" by religious types? Atheist types? If we religious types are slowing you down ... well ... religious types are too numerous to be affected negatively. For atheists, the same is true.

It would be hardly fair of me to resent or hate others for not believing in God. How you came upon your beliefs -or lack thereof- is your business. Why the childish rivalry? It is stupid and so very counterproductive. It slows everybody down.
