I'm actually quite serious about this... and possibly mad.

The Catholic church asserts there is a god; the pope is the representative of god.
God, by their claims, is responsible for everything on Earth - good and bad.
So, to what ends are god responsible?

I am endeavouring to determine a financial amount that god would owe humanity in suffering. After all every rape, pillage, war, death, injury, disability, etc. would be caused by him.
The church cannot contend with this and still claim god exists. By claiming an omnipotent, all-powerful being, and ackowledging themselves as reprsentatives of this being, they admit responisibilty.

Ladies and gentlemen, I am going to sue god. Wish me luck.

I think there are some jurisdiction issues involved that prevent the case from going forward.

A couple facts about "God"
1) God has not gender for there would be no use of any reproductive organs
2) God is NOT HUMAN - to hold human form would be irrelevant - so why, therefore is "man made in God's image"
3) God is also Satan - Have you ever seen a single sided coin, it does not and will not exist
4) The world NEEDS suffering. Think about this one long and hard and maybe you will see how true it is

Why do we insist on a leader someone or something to look down on us like our parents do to us?

Everyone's destination is written; all but how we get there are not.

I've spent so much time in solitude that I've come across these without using anything to interfere with my judgement and look beyond reasoning and what I wish to see

Ah, but should not the representatives of this god be held responsible for crimes of this god?
It is not about whether or not there is a god; but the fact they claim there is, claim this god is responsible for all, claim to be represtenatives of this god, and yet do not hold themselves accountable for atrocities committed by their god.

There is a monetary figure that, as representatives of an accountable power that has claimed responsibility for actions resulting in harm of myself and others, they should be paid in sufferance.

the title of your post made me think of a scene from the Dark Knight... seen the movie?

the guy wants to blackmail batman, and morgan freeman just looks at him like he's an idiot and says-- um, lemme get this straight, so you want to blackmail someone with almost unlimted resources and power and you think he will just say ok, sure??? good luck with that.

not the exact quote but hopefully you get the point.

plus, most versions of god include some beliefs about how man has free choice. if god prevented all bad things from happening, then we would just be mind-controled robots. having the freedom to choose means that consequences happen too. and if you think that we have no free will and ARE just all mind-controled-robots, well, then god is making you sue him. and laughing at you...

Obviously it would have to be a class action suit and it might start with God's representatives being held responsible for all the Catholic buggery, the Islamic terrorists, the Israeli brutality (since Israel claims the land was ceded to them by God) and whatever the Taliban and the religious sects in Sri Lanka might be doing Which court will you apply to?

Why, International, of course! The Vattican likes to think it's a country.
It isn't, it's smaller than Darwin.

If you blame God for all your miseries, you effectively take away your own free will. It's amusing how some people will believe in God, but only inasmuch as He can be blamed for all their problems and none of their joys. Free will means you are reponsible for your own life, the good and the bad.

Free will is one of the most ridiculous concepts ever proposed. Everyone makes decisions according to the possibilities presented to them and those decisions are totally confined to the choice of the best conceived outcome. Free will assumes that all choices are conceived as equal and one is free to choose equally amongst them. This is simply almost never true. Every choice anyone ever makes is conditioned by the preconceived outcome and is never random. If a condition ever arises that the possibilities are equal in all directions (something that almost never occurs) then tossing a coin is as effective as choosing and that is no choice at all. And all sensible choices are conditioned by character and experience which are predetermined.

An article at http://www.sciencenews.org/view/generic ... ee_will%3F describes how a pair of prominent mathematicians proves more or less that free will is not possible.

I agree fully. Free will is one of those concepts that almost everyone takes for granted without actually thinking it through. The more you think about it logically the more the concept is seen as an illusion. We just hate the idea of not having free will.

Who is it that would have free will? If choices are not made according to the state of the mind/brain that makes them in a pre-determined cause and effect way then it would imply there is the equivalent of the coin tosser or random number generator in the brain, which also is not free will. There is either causality leading to choices or random choices. Free will enters into neither.

Walking past a small child with a candy bar I could steal the bar from him or not. You could argue this is free will in action. But I would argue that the outcome of whether I steal it or not is already determined by the state of my brain i.e. my personality, concepts of right or wrong, concepts of law and order and punishment and by a sense of empathy. Free will does not enter into it at all. In effect I am merely a spectator to my own predetermined actions. If I stand there seemingly choosing an action it is merely a calculation at best or a random decision at worst.

Considering your demonstrated inability to think clearly about such an obvious subject I am not at all surprised.
