I've done some thinking on this and I've come up with some rather scary predictions about what could happen if Palin makes VP or even more so president:

1. The Alaskan Iditarod will surpass lacrosse in national viewership.

2. We'll be forced to realize that we have not one but two lone star states.

3. Female NRA membership will increase 30%.

4. Snowmobiling will make its way into the mainstream of ESPN.

5. Todd Palin will start appearing in Penzoil and Quaker State commercials.

6. Italee Optics Inc. will have its own Washington lobbyists.

7. Gina Delaurentis will try to field dress a moose on Food Network.

8. The Alaskan Pipeline will appear on the menu at Red Robbin.

9. Inuit will arrive in junior college course catalogs around the northwest.

10. Dominica Davis will be harder to follow when her winter forecasts include 29 different types of snow.

11. Dr. Rice's janitor will be saddened to see that the amount of juicy love poems from Muammar al-Gaddafi in her trash can are getting a little thin - what'll he ever tell his buddies...

There may be a few other possibilities but I'm already bit shaken.

You forgot to mention all the taxidermy that will be going to go into redecorating the Whitehouse, and that the presidential limo will now feature swamp lights and a rifle rack.

Palin will reject bills that will help the disabled.

Her record on that is actually quite the opposite; she tripled the budget for the disabled in Alaska I believe long before her latest son was even born let alone diagnosed with Down's.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Palin was not a mover of the tripling of funding for special needs kids. I doubt she would spearhead a big cut, but her record is not one of clear advocacy:

Quote:
This spring, Alaska agreed to almost triple its spending on special-needs children, to $73,840 each beginning in 2011. But Gov. Palin didn't help draft the legislation.

Among bloggers' top concerns is a Bush administration measure that would trim Medicaid funding for community services for people with disabilities. Democrats have so far stalled the cuts, which advocates for the disabled said would force the disabled back into institutions.

My guess is that she would support some increases for that type of spending programs, but that there is no clear indication that she would be better than the alternative.

In McCain she has at least a great guy to study under. Watching the debates last night I saw more of what I think sells both of them - McCain and Palin, 'Maverick' as its being coined is really in my opinion a way of describing their populist connection; in fact populism and their authenticity as populists has been their biggest selling point (I think much more so than even McCain's understanding of foreign policy and how to handle military situations most productively).

With Palin's own core values for economics and politics, to gain 80% approval I'm sure she was doing many things right but - at 44 she's still growing and maturing as a political figure, not nearly at her final position on many things. McCain, in the debate, talked a lot about cutting wasteful spending, busting overruns on contracts, and when the commentator asked both he and Obama repeatedly what they would do to acclimate their first 4 years in office to our current financial crisis, they both responds similarly in this regard. One thing McCain really stressed the veterans benefits, told the veterans "I will take care of you" with as much paternal regard as the maternal regard that Palin gave at the RNC to the parents of the disabled (which yes, may still be unwalked but if she really is a populist it will very likely go that way). From the framework that she and McCain are presenting it sounds like they wish to cut truely 'wasteful' spending like the Big Dig, big farm subsidies, and badly overrun defense contracts and reallocate it I think these are the areas they'd be most likely to give back. After all it is our money, they're stressing the point that they understand that and want our money used as we best see fit.

Do you think that high approval rating has anything to do with the high price of oil, and the expansion of the size of Alaska's government? Her increasing taxes on the oil companies, and handing it out to Alaska residents? Just a thought ...

Quote:
March 3 (Bloomberg) -- Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, a former beauty pageant winner, is succeeding where Venezuela President Hugo Chavez, a former paratrooper and military coup leader, so far has failed.

Palin threatened to evict Exxon Mobil Corp., the world's biggest oil company, and partners BP Plc, Chevron Corp. and ConocoPhillips from a state-owned gas field, winning their promise to increase Alaska's natural-gas output 17 percent. She raised taxes on oil profits by $1.5 billion a year and rejected industry ownership of a $25 billion pipeline.

Politicians and energy companies are haggling for revenue with oil around $100 a barrel. Exxon and partners say higher taxes may lead to fewer investments in Alaska, home to the second-largest U.S. reserves behind Texas. None has quit the state. Exxon and ConocoPhillips last year left Venezuela rather than accept lower profits when Chavez seized oil fields.

If my calculator is not deceiving me, that works out to an extra $2200 per resident of Alaska - and like all taxes, the cost is ultimately pushed over to the consumers. I'm sure that her petro-socialism will have to be adjusted a bit if she becomes President of all 50 States and the various territories.

Only if you install some bearskin rugs and some moose antlers on the grill, maybe give it a stars and stripes paint job... On the plus side, the secret service detail wouldn't need a separate car, and you could mount a couple of ATVs to the roof rack, in case a little road hunting was called for.

I can see your point with the rebate checks, but increasing the size of government? Only certain rather specific types of people get excited over bigger government...

It really depends on how things are worded. In isolation, few Americans are for the idea of 'bigger government'. On the other hand, when the city council decides to hire 4 new librarians to open a new library branch, some people will be cheering. If overcrowded public schools decide to hire more teachers and lower the student:teacher ratio, parents will applaud. If the government is providing better police and fire protection, better roads, opening new degree programs at state universities and delivering other services that people want, then people are usually for bigger government.

People are pretty consistently opposed to increasing the number of 'bureacrats' in government - which is good if those bureaucrats sit around and don't do much. On the other hand, if the county construction permitting agency hires a few more building inspectors so that it doesn't take so long to get a permit, then its good.

I can see not too many people here seem to want to stand up for what is the truth about Palin. But I'm not afraid of conservatives. If any of you would like to see the reality of a Palin presidency, just watch her interviews with Katie Couric. Even Republicans said she sounded completely incoherent and are not happy with her performance because it obviously makes them look bad. The reality of a Palin presidency is that incoherency, that is the real Palin, while the real McCain (the supposed Maverick) disappeared long ago, buried under the weight of his desperation.

It's funny how the conservatives on this site hijack any thread critical of their Republican bosses, and the liberals, if there are any here, refuse to speak out. Tough. Republicans can't stand the heat of their own burning agenda. And there are those in this thread who have a problem admitting any opinions other than their own -- classic conservatives. Rot in peace. You're supposed heroes look like dottering idiots and out-of-their-depth frauds.
