I'll cast the first vote; I think Biden won by a long shot. Can't say I agreed with his substance but, he actually stayed on point - can't say that for both of them.

Still trying to get my head around the idea of President Obama but still; people were saying that the presidency hinged on this debate, that it was Palin's debate to lose - and she did so probably well beyond anyone's expectations.

Sarah Palin was very patronizing to the audience and acted like a well-trained dog, but she was probably able to connect emotionally with the audience a little bit better. I think Joe Biden did a good job connecting John McCain's policy proposals with the failures of the Bush administration.

I'm going to say Biden - I wasn't as impressed with him as I'd hoped to be (or maybe not quite as disappointed with Palin as I thought I would be), but still, he was not nearly as evasive. He seemed sincere and knowledgeable about both the issues and his (and Obama's) positions on them, and was willing to admit things that might have been hard at points (such as his remarks on the Achilles' heel question).

That being said, I wanted to smack both candidates every time they brought up the opponent rather than focusing on their own platforms and failed to directly and specifically answer a question. People's words and actions should speak for themselves, no one need to point it out. Bashing your opponent is NOT an answer to pressing policy issues!

I think Palin did what she needed to, which was to stop the bleeding coming from her as the VP pick. I do wish she would have stayed on point a bit more, but I was really prepared for disaster after some of the interviews, so I was quite relieved with the outcome here. I think that she and the McCain campaign have a good strategy going as far as negating the constant comparisons to the Bush administration by shading their opponents as being more interested in assigning blame than fixing anything, since Biden seemed so insistent on repeatedly making that comparison. Still, not the disaster I was afraid of, but not the miracle I had hoped for.

I think the media won, since it gave them hours of commentary to work with...

It was a tie. If they were running for president I'd choose either one.

I think McCain won the Presidential debate last month.

I also know that the media at all other times censors the candidates
to make them look however they feel like it. Just like the comedians do
by editing the video and taking everything out of context or mocking them
with impersonators. The media doesn't like someone they tape them
only when they make a mistake, and that's what they call news
because all the news is always "bad news" anyway,
it gets better ratings than good news. What kind of ratings would a TV show
about "Living happily ever after on Paradise Island" get? None for that, all for "LOST!".

If the election matters at all, it's serious business that all voters should
consider, look at records, don't believe what anyone says, especially the TV!
don't base your opinions on how they look as if it was a beauty pageant,
because the election will affect the whole world! It's not American Idol!

My current opinion is that Obama is NOT A LEADER, so he will drive the
country downhill without any brakes and no hands. I'd rather vote libertarian.
Speaking of which, if everyone asked for what they really wanted they'd have a chance
of getting it. And another thing, I'd rather vote for "the right person" than
"the winner". It is ridiculous to feel ashamed at voting for a likely loser, as if it
was just a ball game or something, and everyone being loyal to "their home team".

I predict Obama will lose. Objectively. If he had picked Hillary he'd win.
All the women will vote for Palin, all the racists and red states will vote for McCain, and
everyone still wonders What will Obama "change"? USA to Communism?
That would be a "change", and he hasn't said what change he would or wouldn't make!
Maybe he will tax business so much that they can't afford to pay any workers and go
out of business unless they move to Mexico.

I am a woman who is voting for Obama, and the vast majority of my female friends and relatives are doing the same. I think that Biden won the debate mainly because he stayed (a little) more on topic to the questions than Palin did.

That said, I have to admit that, as a woman, I was relieved that Palin didn't make a complete ass of herself like she did with some of her interviews.

Biden did very well and I think he won.

Palin did do a lot better than I expected but all she did was put a bandage on her bad reputation, just because you bandage a wound does not mean your out of the woods yet, it takes time for wounds to heal.

Biden won the debate, but Palin got my vote in the Bikini competition.

I was surprised at how she did, she just doesn't seem to be qualified for VP, they seem to be kind of nefarious or nasty like the current one, (Dick The Penguin Chaney), she just to nice. and she's a babe. I don't particularly care for Biden, but he is very experienced.

What it came down to, tracking the last 4 or 5 weeks, first speech was positive - and I made the mistake of thinking we pretty much had a female Giuliani type character. Watching the Gibson interview, she didn't do terrible but I was starting to realize my projection wasn't exactly on. Hearing what she said with Couric scared me, not because she was wrong, but she was starting to show that really, she wasn't hardened or refined. Last night - I cringed through the first half of the speech, she did get it together a bit toward the second half but still; IMO it wasn't enough, to either mend the blemishes on her reputation or get any of the voting base back. Looks like McCain will have to really drive home these next couple debates, otherwise I'd think its almost certain coupe de gras on his campaign.
