They're not all racist but there is a very distinct racist portion of the party that is becoming more and more endemic to the Republicans and is also the reason why public services are discouraged more and more. Not all Republicans are racist but they're holding a larger and larger portion of the population as times moves forward.

Dixiecrats are much more likely to be Republicans these days than Democrats.

I think there's a larger portion of Republicans being called "racist" as compared to prior the election of Obama, but just calling somebody something is merely is the application of a name and does nothing to change the actual character of that which is so labeled.

Blacks didnt just make up their aversion to the GOP. They know which party the southern racists ran to in the 1960s. It wasnt the Democrats. There are people alive today who remember it. It's natural for them to harbor a grudge.

The Southern Strategy is still alive and well today...it's just that the policies are so indoctrinated at this point and the semantics are so removed from the original intent that while the effect is still in place, a lot of people can honestly claim ignorance about the racist effects of the policies. Or, in other words, it's more brutal today in its cunning.

Not to mention they're working on bringing slavery back. Look into prisons, prison populations, and various laws regarding three strikes and fun controversies like the money for kids prison scandal and the effects of the privatization of prisons. The end result is the largest (per capacita) prison population in the world and, effectively, a collection of (mostly minority) slaves. They'll sell it as being tough on crime but the actual effects are "we're bringing back slavery!! wahoo!!"

The overwhelming majority of Republicans think racism is just plain stupid, who cares what someone's skin color is. What Republicans get concerned about is the people voting multiple times, people that are convicted felons voting, people that are here illegally voting, etc.
[illegal voting and minority voting connected -Jake]

Ever heard of: "Vote early and vote often." That's the Chicago way, and its worries of actual voter fraud that makes Republicans pay close attention to what goes on at the ballot box.

There may be a few Republicans that stray into intimidation which is wrong, but the actual concern of voter fraud is legitimate.
[correct and well written -Jake]

However, I haven't heard of Republicans or Tea Partiers in recent memory showing up with clubs outside polling places.

I think you are a good person with valid concerns and points but when you use retorical

I've heard some people say that when the Rebublican Party was founded it was like how the Democrats are today. Is that true?

In what way, cause I would argue the Democrats today are nothing like the pre-civil war/Civil War Republicans. First, Republicans of that era were against slavery as a matter of principle, the Democrats today want to keep the status quo while playing to minorities that their problems are all from evil big business and nasty Republicans.

We've seen that Democrats are still the same party as they were in that era in certain regards. The trick is they tend to try to fool people into thinking that they are the compassionate party. The Democrats wanted the welfare system set up so as to keep people dependent on welfare. African Americans whom are conservative (Herman Cain) tend to be subject of vicious verbal attacks by the left.

For many Republicans the principle stand against slavery is still there, a lot of Republicans view the entire concept of racism to be just plain stupid. The reason tea partiers and Republicans want illegal immigrants thrown out of the country is quite simple. They need to respect the laws of this country, it has nothing to do with race. I have no problem with people whom immigrated from Mexico legally. I do have a problem with someone entering the country illegally.

To tea partiers and many Republicans the border issue has to do with respecting our country's laws. It has nothing to do with race.

bolds are mine except for legally which was already there.

have you noticed that your arguments tend to rely on the bad faith of your opponents
and an assumption of their motives
what if it turned out that most liberals are as ernest in their beliefs as yourself?
that would be weird.

I can't ever tell whether far right-wingers believe the crap they say or are just indulging in fantasies about all the evil vile democrats who disagree with them. Are they even aware of their faulty theory-of-mind? Or are they just making s**t up that even they don't really believe?

And Inuyasha, remember, Republicans are the party connected to the ideology of Randroidism. If the weak and infirmed can't pull themselves up by their bootstraps, society doesn't owe them anything. I mean, just read some of the posts by your fellow conservative. One stated that it would be okay if his own children became permanently unemployable and starved to death as a result because "the world isn't fair". So humans are expendable and have no dignity or value beyond the labor they supply. Capitalism trumps human dignity.

I don't believe in the "They" and I don't claim to "their" motives but it certainly seems that something is very wrong in the U.S. criminal justice system. I see in more as emergent than conspiritorial in Origin but the effect is the same. More police power more people in jail ... a less free society.

oh yeah as a resident of North carolina and former resident of Mississippi.

Good point in the "they/their/them" because it most likely does create a conspiratorial tone and I don't believe it's something that's especially a shared conspiracy. At least not on a conscious level. I think a subconscious level, there is something to it but that's probably too speculative for most.

I don't see it as a conspiracy really, but rather just Machiavellian maneuvering. Peace is just war by other means, as I like to say

I think that it is all short game manipulation without an eye to future consquence.

They feint and parry like any two combatants, often in a calculated nature for short-term gains. I'm personally not a believer in any of that New World Order or Global Cabal crap

Pretty much, but sometimes it is clear to me that events are put in motion for something that could happen five or twenty years down the road. There was a thread about defense of the unborn being justifiable for murder, recently, and I saw future scheming all over it, as did a few others

wrt the OP, it's funny: I'm employed, I pay my taxes, and recently lived with a woman who was 'disabled' and bent on gaming the system for every last red cent she could extract, whether she needed it or not (for example, she had one of those chairs advertised on TV as being 'completely paid for by medicare' despite being perfectly able to walk), and regularly lied through her teeth; I am a flaming liberal, and she was as conservative as they come - up to and including loving every last thing Palin ever uttered. She was a classic believer in 'keeping the Government's filthy hands off of her medicare,' and was constantly whining about 'freeloaders' and 'illegals' taking handouts.

Don't forget since politics is far from a science even the players don't know what the hell they are doing. The war In Iraq did not turn out in anyones interest except defense contractors (who could have made money with a war anywhere and so had no real intrest in Iraq) and of course Iran (ominous organ music) and if they planned this outcome they are geniuses.

Wrong, the war actually turned out good for the Iraqi People being out from under a brutal dictator. They're actually looking like they are in about the best shape of any Middle Eastern country aside from Israel and Kuwait at the moment.

Arguably true if you define the Iraqi people as the Shia who are Iranian aligned. not so much for Sunni (lost power), or Christians, Mandeans, Yazedi etc. who may not even exist in the next few years. as we have seen in recent events the war was not nessacery for the removal of a dictator.
I am never sad to see a dictator go and hope to see it happen in soon Saudi Arabia, Syria, Jordan, Iran (that would be the supreme leader not the puppet president who does not matter) etc.
If you got a dictatorship then I am against it.
I hold axiomatic the idea that people should live in free society
