Times do change; when I first got into guns we liked to blame CounterStrike for people who thought using virtual guns made them experts on the real ones. True story though, I first really got into guns on the research side after I was walking through a bookstore and saw a book on small arms that had an FN P90 on the cover and recognized it from playing Goldeneye on the N64. I had thought the video game gun was fictitious, and seeing the that it was a real weapon made me curious to know more about what sort of unusual guns were out there, so I bought some books and started reading, and got myself totally hooked on the subject in the process. So as much as I like to make fun of people who are expert video marksmen, I do have to respect the medium as a potential gateway to actual knowledge and interest.

I would feel a lot safer hiding behind the back of the man who was shooting those things, rather than being the person facing him!

I'll too feel a lot safer if there used on a firing range, I' have safety handled firearms in a safe environment for sport. Long before Dunblane I got the nickname of Dirty Harry in range I use to shoot at. I stopped now after one of my cousins was murder in his sleep by an squaddie with PTSD with his assault rifle.

More proof about people killing people ... and I grieve the loss of your cousin.


I have not been following this part of this discussion, but I thought there were one or more "video games" actually being used for real-life training purposes. Am I wrong about that?

You are correct. I can think of one off hand, 'Americas Army' (I believe that is what its called)
Though what we were discussing was the erroneous way that some video game fanboys act like they are experts after playing videogames and not doing further research. As Dox47 put it, it is a way to open an avenue into doing further research. I actually have done that myself a few times. I was playing a videogame not long ago and there is a rifle called the G-11 that I found looked odd, and I did some research into it and discovered it was a German designed assault rifle that used caseless ammunition. Which further led me down a research track into caselesss ammunition. Just an example I guess

Yep thats right about America's Army you beat me to point out about it. Its a U.S. government financed FFS they use it a PR & recruitment tool, am not sure if its used as a combat simulation by the US military. Tho I have hear that some military do use FFS as simulation tools.

Dox47...you definitely know your stuff, for guessing the Glock 27 before I said that is what I'd go with (which is a good guess even for me to go with considering I am so uneducated on actual combat).

For those of you that are interested, I am interested in one more handgun to add to the collection. I've been contemplating for the bast couple of years (I have the money for it, it's just whether or not I really want to buy it). Here it is:

Not such a hard guess when it's the only thing remotely concealable in the bunch, plus I carry a G26 on occasions when my 1911 is too heavy yet my .380 doesn't seem like enough gun.

Personally if I was going to get another carry 1911, I'd be more likely to go with one of Ed Brown's bobtail variants with the chopped mainspring housing, clipping the corner off the butt really makes it a lot easier to hide, plus it's in about the same price range. I did also handle a Kahr .45 the other day that really impressed me with it's power to weight ratio, the thing wasn't much bigger than my Glock but carried the much heavier ACP rounds, not too pricey either. Strangely enough I've been finding myself drawn to 1980's style longslide .45s lately, something about the aesthetics of that extra metal out front really just looks cool to me. Not the most practical carry pieces, I know, but I don't see a lot of those in your collection either.

Be honest...you are looking for something in the 40-watt range (Terminator reference for those of you unfamiliar).

Personally, I don't have a clue how that sub-1911 Wilson shoots, but it looks really cool, and that's pretty much how I buy my guns...based on what I think is cool. That's why I have a double-barrel in my collection. Those Stoeger Coach guns are the shortest double-barrel shotguns you can get without actually needing Title 2.

I would much rather buy a TAR-21 with that cash. Yes it's a 5.56/.223 rifle but it is just godly.

@ Dox47: Not the most practical carry piece but you can probably stick that far enough up someone's ass to get a silent kill lol.

I didn't have any pictures of guns, but that is a gun rack with rifles in back of my wife and I in the avatar.
