The Edwards story is the one I'm talking about.

The mainstream media was actively trying to bury the story rather than report on it, until the Enquirer blew the story wide open.

It may simply be a case of the media believing (incorrectly) that there wasn't really a story there.
And it should be recalled, when Senator John Ensign was involved with his dalliance with his female aid, her husband had approached Fox with the story. Fox turned him away - maybe because they thought there wasn't a story there, or maybe because they wanted to protect the senator for political reasons. The story was broadcast only after this man had approached MSNBC with the story.

The Edwards thing was probably just an interest in self-preservation.

At the time a lot of democrats talked like it was a foregone conclusion that he was going to be the next president.

I, for one, never cared for the guy. I pretty much hold ambulance chasers at the same level of contempt as i do the sort of people they sue. I believed Edwards to be a slimeball long before i learned that he was getting a little something something on the side.

But the democratic party believes in ideology and pecking order, and Edwards somehow got himself positioned as a perceived golden boy.

Ever since the McGovern thing, the DNC prefers to pick a candidate and stick with them. The democratic process can derail things, but that's how they behave.

Back in 2004, I had a friend attending college at a school in iowa that puts the liberal back in liberal arts education. She was active in their local DNC chapter.

They were overwhelmingly in favor of Howard Dean until it got close to caucus time, at which point the word was handed down from the national organization that although they liked Dean, they neededto vote for Kerry.

They literally went door to door in the dorms explaining that it was imperative that they set aside their beliefs in favor of the chosen candidate.

That, and the whole concept of delegates, sort of disgust me.

So, yes, I'm a flaming liberal, but my voter registration says "Unaffiliated". So i don't get to vote in primaries - but that's fine, because i live in a district so vehemently conservative that i can throw my vote away with a clean conscience. If 85% of the voters are voting straight ticket republican, it doesn't matter if i show up to vote on election day at all. I do anyway, but my vote is a meaningless statistic.

Sorry, I've gone way off the rails on my anti-partisan rant.

I'd prefer to see both parties implode. But the republican party should go first. Lucky for me it appears to be obliging.

Actually Republicans can have infighting and disagreements, we have them all the time, that doesn't mean at the end of the day that the party will implode.

Oh btw, you know the people really being obstructionist are Democrats in the Senate.

There are 15 pieces of legislation to help with job creation, pass a budget, etc. that the House has passed that Harry Reid won't even allow up for a debate in the Senate.

Aren't those 15 pieces of legislation full of cuts in social security and social programs? But at the same time, there isn't a single mention of raising taxes on the rich. I think that's a bit lopsided in favor of the 1%.

Again stop with the rhetoric, the problem is we can't afford the social programs period even if we were taxing the rich at 100% and took away everything they owned.

We could cut all other spending to 0 and the entitlements would still cause us to be running a deficit.

Furthermore, if the Republican proposals were really as bad as you say they were, Harry Reid wouldn't be keeping them from even being allowed up for debate.

Nor would Obama be continuing his partisan campaign tour on the taxpayer dime.

The Democrats have just being using the classic appeal to emotion, and you quite frankly have fallen for it.

Or, more likely, these proposals are not worth the time. Being "shut down" should send a message that there is something wrong with them, not that there is a conspiracy, at least in most cases

Or is it you who has fallen for the Republican scare tactic that social programs are unsustainable?

So not even having a budget up for debate in over 900 days (even when the Dems had a fillabuster-proof senate) is okay cause a budget is not worth their time.

One of the primary duties of the Legislative Branch is to come up with a Federal Budget...

The fallacy of your reasoning is that if the mass media is going to ignore a story, who else is going to publish it.

Ignoring facts because you don't approve of the source or accepting false statement because it comes from an approved source.

Anyway, Herman Cain's candidacy was just a joke from the get-go. Now, he can sell books, get a spot on Fox News, and live off of his Political Action Committee donations for the rest of his life.

As I recall, one such tabloid had once stated that the cast of WKRP In Cincinnati had witnessed a UFO landing. Now, any news source that would publish such a story has, to say the least, has suspect journalistic credentials. So no, I stand by my judgement.
And please have the honesty to admit it; you want this story about Obama to be true.
