Well we are all the same kin so I don't think it is really out of turn for one of us, I was more talking about the liberal white usually college student that takes offense to these types of costumes.
Lets just say this, the way I talked with black people back home growing up with them and being the minority in that situation would not be considered acceptable to these lily white weirdos who just discovered there is inequality in the world at college who lived their whole lives in affluent white suburbs because their parents abandoned the city and us poor people decades ago. They're the oppressor class not me.
Wow. You left this site because of this thread?
"Rigid thinking"/"Black-white" thinking is a known trait for some ASD people. Perhaps it's applicable here.
In truth, some customes are offensive, and some are not; it's not a black and white issue.

Arizona is a big place, Phoenix metro is like 4.5 million with god knows how many snowbirds in the winter. It is a pretty transient place, I have found it to be less close minded than the birthplace of Progressivism that hailed from but I guess I came from the most neglected marginalized part of it but the suburbs were even worse. I think it is part of the Lutheran or at least WELS character to be judgmental, it's kind of fatalistic belief system where our failures and successes are reflection of our faith. The type that will smile at you then sneer behind your back, they don't hate but you deserve what you get. Just my experience of course, I'm not sure devout Catholics are any better and I can honestly say I don't know any Evangelicals. There are a lot of religious people here, a lot of Mormons and they're really nice personally but I'm not sure what they think of me behind my back.
fwiw the services are better than they were back home, Wisconsin hates Milwaukee. There a lot of racists-in-denial in Wisconsin, there is a reason why Milwaukee is the most segregated city in America.

You should learn the difference between crying and bitching. Have you once seen me say that I'm hurt over it? Have you seen me say that it causes me to feel oppressed or that I might catch PTSD from the fact that its down? Have you seen me imply that I might need therapy from its absense? Have you seen me say that poor oppressed me is helpless in the face of those who might deprive me of the flag?
OK then. You have seen me b***h, complain, carry on, ridicule, and point out stupidity, not to mention disagree and debate. Mainly to whine you have to feel that you are a victim. Does that sound like me at all?
So, it's not just complaining that bothers you. It's complaining and showing weakness that really draws your ire and contempt.
That doesn't really help your case, but it does shed some light on your psychology.
Gotta say, I'm pretty horrified.

Mocking trans people and making them the butt of jokes - including "gag" costumes - has everything to do with it.
"analysis of responses to the National Transgender Discrimination Survey (NTDS) shows that transgender respondents who experienced rejection by family and friends, discrimination, victimization, or violence have a higher risk of attempting suicide. 78 percent of survey respondents who suffered physical or sexual violence at school reported suicide attempts, as did 65 percent of respondents who experienced violence at work.
The study suggests that several minority stressors – negative experiences related to anti-transgender bias – may contribute to elevated prevalence of suicide attempts among transgender people, such as experiences of harassment, family rejection, housing instability, and discrimination in health care. Over half of those who experienced harassment or bullying in schools reported lifetime suicide attempts"
http://williamsinstitute.law.ucla.edu/r ... ng-adults/
So, go ahead and say that trans people are being whiny. Go ahead and say that bullying doesn't affect suicide and depression rates. Go ahead and say that gag or 'joke' costumes aren't bullying.
Say whatever you want that will let you sleep tonight. I've met enough trans kids & teens who've been bullied and who have either contemplated or attempted suicide because of that bullying to assure you that 'jokes' like the Caitlyn Jenner costume are a cruel form of bullying.
You know who top the suicide statistics though?
Heterosexual men.
Because of the politically correct spectrum of insanity where men are slammed for every manifestation of their masculinity, as this is deemed "oppressive" or "patriarchal", while every other flavor of expression is cheered on, no matter how abnormal it is.
There is a -phobic for every one of the protected victim groups. But to me, it seems like these people are tradition-phobic as they are not merely content with themselves being free from traditional gender roles, but unabashedly attack other people who disagree with them but who mind their own f*****g business. It isn't enough that they aren't pestered with it, they must be the thought police too.
Social Justice Warriors and the perversion of progressivism that they push are like Jehovahs Witnesses in that regard, actively trying to recruit through intimidation, which makes people shun them. No, it's not enough that they set up their own areas of interest so that people can seek them out on their own accord, and within this space they are free to enforce their own policies, but their thought policing manifests just like the Jehovahs Witnesses who go knocking on doors because there might be people somewhere, who think differently, and those people must be deconverted from wrongthink no matter the cost.
This is revolting.
Just let the kids dress up however they want for Halloween. What's next after this? Where is the line drawn?
Okay.....
So where in the U.S. are children being legally penalized for dressing in certain costumes?
If they aren't, then this is, as I've already stated, is a non-issue. Seriously, people, unglue yourselves from social media and the shrieking massives found within.

This sounds like a classic case of going overboard with the PC concept....BS of course. The idea is don't be blatantly derogatory, rude and discriminatory in the way you say things. Then you have the 'OMG anything that might ever offend/bother anyone whatsoever needs to be banned and outlawed' crowd. Unfortunately anytime political correctness is brought up everyone thinks you subscribe to the latter rather than the former.
I don't see how a cowboy or Indian costume is 'racist' unless they specifically use the costume to make some kind of racist statement. Like wearing an indian costume and trying to make a mockery of native americans isn't cool but a little fun dressing up isn't in any way harmful. But if they're jumping on that I'd hate to see how they feel about costumes actually meant to be 'scary'....Oh god forbid.

There isn't a legal penalty most of the time, it's more mob justice and bullying. It's an issue as long as the PC wannabe-fuhrers make it one.
also lets Jenner speak for herself instead of the harpies
"I'm in on the joke. I don't think it's offensive at all," Jenner replied. "I know the community does and they've gotten a lot of criticism for doing it. I think it's great...Life's too short." She also joked that she just wished the costume was a little bit higher quality. "We could have done my own costume," she said. "I mean that was a serious bustier on the cover of Vanity Fair, you know?"

PS: You've given me an idea.

This halloween I'm going to give kids with non-PC/offensive costumes (if thier are any) extra candy.

How will you determine this....exactly which ones are offensive, if it offends you? or if you perceive it to be something that offends someone else?

Only today I heard there's a school here in Melbourne that told any Muslim kids that they could leave the room when our national Anthem Is being played.
A lot of angry people rang the radio station about it, some muslims did too so it was mostly the school's idea not them but they will get the blame for it.
Soon no one will be able to say anything for fear of upsetting someone else and we will all just be walking around like human robots.
I think you're thinking of socially conservative democrats....most I've talked to and heard from who identify as socialist or socialist leaning could care less what kids want to dress up as for Halloween. It seems more like it would be coming from Hilary Clinton, and Tipper Gore esque yuppie democrats than socialists as socialism is much more economic focused than 'how you should live your private life and express yourself'.
There probably are people who agree with a more socialist system as well as suppression of free speech and expression don't get me wrong but they don't have the monopoly...they are specifically authoritarian, socialism does not require authoritarianism. I mean by your logic groups like Westboro Baptist and The Tea Party represent the right in its entirety.

I know this is off topic here but I think Milwaukee is one of the whitest cities out there because my mom grew up there and she didn't see a lot of black people growing up. Everyone was white so her siblings feel uncomfortable when they are with a different person who isn't their skin color. My mom doesn't feel that way but her sisters do. For me I have always seen people of different races so to me it was normal because I was exposed to it from a young age because I lived there were different races. Then we moved to Montana and only people I saw there were whites and Native Americans and foreign exchange students so life was different there than in Portland, OR. So I can assume this would be why I am not uncomfortable anyone who is different than me so it's something I can't even relate to.

I really wish I could join a discussion like this and agree that the kids should be able to wear what costumes they want on Halloween and people trying to stop that got a stick up their a**....without feeling like its automatically assumed I'd want to censor halloween costumes solely because I'm not 'on the right'....and what is to say there aren't religious right wingers just as bad with wanting certain costumes 'banned'. This isn't a clean battle between the left and right like a lot of the posts here seem to suggest.

Political labels are meaningless, they're warped to s**t and can mean anything. Like liberal is good, it means somebody that believes in the maximum amount of freedom and in other countries it is considered centrist or center-right. Classical liberalism is analogous with libertarianism which ironically outside of this country is more associated the far-left. In this country there is a huge taboo against social democrats or anything resembling socialism so pretty much every leftist called themselves liberals even tho there are many many very illiberal like say Hillary Clinton. Even liberal has fallen out of favor, most called themselves progressives liking themselves the progressives of the early 20th century. Cultural Marxists is a better term for the type of people who are being talked about in this thread, instead of it simply being economics like it is in normal Marxism it is culture that is the main reason for inequality in their eyes. Most will not identify with this term but that's who this is directed at, they actually try to call it a conspiracy theory for some strange reason even tho that makes no sense.
Basically words are BS.

Milwaukee is plurality black, something roughly like 45% black 35% white 20% hispanic and 5% asian. People don't live around each other, blacks live next to blacks and whites live next to whites and the same goes for rich and poor. There is a black part of town, a white part of town, a hispanic part of town, it's that separated. The city has changed A LOT since the 60s obviously, it probably was one of the whiter cities in America at one time but even then it was segregated between the German, Polish, and Jewish communities so it's been this way from the start. Now people segregate themselves out of the city entirely and live in the suburbs which are not friendly to poor people whatsoever. They developed in reaction to the race riots here in the 60s and the decline of manufacturing, the city is just a shell of what it was in its heyday. The black community in Milwaukee has to one of the most impoverished in the entire country, there is no middle class or any sort of leaders. The black leader I know of growing with were guys like Michael McGee and his son Jr who were nothing better than 2 bit thugs, Michael McGee Jr is in prison right now for corruption because he basically ran a protection racket against the Indian and Middle Eastern business owners in his district.
Believe it or not, Milwaukee is the only major American city to elect a Socialist mayor and was considered the birthplace of progressivism in this country yet it has still developed this way.

The issue with cultural marxism is marxism and more generally socialism doesn't really apply to the issue even. Socialism addresses that class and economic inequality is a major contribute to existing problems and thus tries to do a better job of dividing the resources and goods...of course other philosophies can be combined with a more socialist based system.
Seems most you describe as cultural marxists, wouldn't actually identify with socialist economic ideas. I mean its the same kind of fallacy as that term 'social darwanism' trying to apply how nature in the wild works to society...except replacing fittest with wealthiest, and then acting like the same rules of nature apply to a supposedly civilized society. It just doesn't make a lot of sense to take a theory/philosophy and apply it to something where its irrelevant. Being overly PC, or encouraging society to become this way, and minimizing freedom of speech and expression have nothing whatsoever to do with 'socialism' in general and not much to do specifically with Marxism either.
But perhaps this is why words are BS.

I stand corrected then. But that would explain why my mom only grew up around whites.
