I don't get why people want Muslims in their country.

I worked with one Muslim guy who would never left his wife out of his apartment.

Apparently, the left wingers go nuts for Muslims, like it's pizza, or their favorite food.

I would join the military if I were allowed to but Uncle Sam only takes the finest NTs, this country let me down growing up so if I've done so little for this country then you are blaming the victim. All the better I suppose; we should of never been in Iraq, it was a pointless war where we wasted a lot of money and many many people died for no good reason at all.

I never liked the elitist way the military handled their recruiting process, for all the scrutiny most of what they get are wayward youths. Most people join for self improvement and the education, its a shame they close the door on so many people. I'm sorry about what I said earlier.

Yeah, they don't tell you all the things you are disqualified from out of hand when they diagnose you. What really sucked is that those jobs you get disqualified from are basically the only working class escapes from a post industrial wasteland ghetto, we had to pick up our bags and move across the country to find a better life.

The conquistadors were not all volunteers or conscripted in the way we think of today. If you were not socially connected, and in the wrong place at the wrong time, you could find yourself in the army of any number of European countries during that period. Just a little knowledge of the history of Spain will lead to the statistical certainty that Jews and Muslims helped discover America. I have a Mexican friend whose last name is spelled one letter differently from Tehran, who pointed this out to me. It is part of his family history, and they are also among the people to whom America moved, and then started treating them like the immigrants.

That's how you use a personal anecdote to highlight a historical or statistical fact. Generalizing from one instance is a common logical error, though.

No, it's not an all out Muslim ban. Trump's still letting in people from countries where the 9/11 hijackers were from, but is keeping his promise to keep out desperate, frightened refugees fleeing from potential murder and torture. Really classy, and sure to keep us super safe, as well!

Oh sure when you put it that way it makes no sense whatsoever.

What other way is there to put it? That is pretty much what a refugee ban does, means more people trapped in war torn syria and surrounding areas, areas the U.S even bombs with their drone strikes.

I was agreeing with Bill using sarcasm.

Well it is true that there are a lot of practices and beliefs that go strongly against leftest liberalism. Anti equal rights for women, very anti abortion, very anti gay marriage or gay rights or transgender etc, anti freedom of religion, anti freedom of speech etc etc.

In some sense, the American right are giving up natural allies. Some are really hung up on Jesus, and others love bacon almost as much; without those two things, the left would be completely screwed.

The problem with Trump's decree is that it is unconstitutional and immoral. Choosing who to allow into the country based on their religion is unethical and the beginning of treating people according to their faith for all kinds of things. Will businesses be able to refuse service to Muslims?

It's not unconstitutional, it's completely legal and there is a long history of the US enacting similar and much more extreme measures. People that are not US citizens and not on US soil are not entitled to any protection from our constitution. Dubbing it a 'Muslim ban' doesn't make it so, there are 45 Muslim majority countries and only travel from 7 is temporarily paused. 6 of those countries have civil wars raging and the other is Iran.

Iraqi interpreters have risked their lives for US interests, whether they're entitled to be here or not, they've done more for this county than Trump, or you for that matter.

Agreed. Treat our friends like this, and soon, we won't have any friends left.

That's the same thing that happened with me and the Navy, I wanted to join them, but I told them too much. Later, while visiting relatives (different region), I joined the Army and kept the diagnosis to myself. Kind of a messed up take home story, but lying had a positive impact on my life.

Yeah, I don't know the exact stats, but I have been absolutely APPALLED at the number of immigrants, whenever I've had to go apply for assistance.

These are excuses the profiteers give. Those that profit on refugee immigration.

The ordinary citizen doesn't want a bunch of dirt poor, non-English speaking, differently looking, differently cultured people in the neighborhood.

I think this is fundamentally true and always has been throughout human history. It's basic human nature. I think those who claim they've evolved beyond it, would have a big problem if a redneck Confederate flag displaying Breitbart reading family moved next to them, even of that family was very polite and friendly. They'd still want them to move somewhere else, to go back where they came from.
